Shutdown/Startup Windows within SageTV?

I have an assembled and functioning fully-dedicated PVR with the following components:

-SilverStone Lascala Case LC02
-Via EPIA-M10000 1GHZ Motherboard with SuperTalent PC2100 512MB DDR-SDRAM
-Maxtor 3.5" full-size 250GB ultra ATA 7200 Hard Drive with 16 MB buffer
-Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-350 PCI card (using hardware out for TV) and new remote
-SageTV 2.2 software and Windows XP Home OS.

Now that the PVS is functioning, I have removed the SVGA monitor and keyboard (SageTV autoloads when Windows starts). The SageTV screens appear fine on my TV screen.

QUESTION: Is there any way I can configure this system so that the Windows desktop could also appear on the screen, thus allowing me to do a normal Windows shutdown/startup when necessary?

Shutdown.exe is an excellent addition to the XP installation. This program allows you to restart or shutdown your local or remote computers.

shutdown -s will shutdown your local system, for example. You can also insert this into batch files or shortcuts for more powerful uses.

The Windows help on shutdown.exe can be found below:

Usage: shutdown [-i | -l | -s | -r | -a] [-f] [-m computername] [-t xx] [-c "comment"] [-d up:xx:yy]

No args Display this message (same as -?)
-i Display GUI interface, must be the first option
-l Log off (cannot be used with -m option)
-s Shutdown the computer
-r Shutdown and restart the computer
-a Abort a system shutdown
-m computername Remote computer to shutdown/restart/abort
-t xx Set timeout for shutdown to xx seconds
-c "comment" Shutdown comment (maximum of 127 characters)
-f Forces running applications to close without warning
-d [u][p]:xx:yy The reason code for the shutdown
u is the user code
p is a planned shutdown code
xx is the major reason code (positive integer less than 256)
yy is the minor reason code (positive integer less than 65536)

Short answer, no you can't get the Windows desktop out of the 350. salsbst's info should let you restart if you've got a keyboard. Just Win+R then type shutdown -(option) enter

To stanger89 - Although my IR receiver feeds in through the 350, would it be possible to reprogram one of the buttons on my Hauppauge remote to send a message through the PCI bus?

If not, what about the possibility of executing a shutdown utility through SageTV?

works well from girder too.....I finally programed a button on the remote to restart the computer.......for those rare moments when sage client goes wacky.
Alot of people dont realize you can issue all kinds of op system commands this way for exampe control your mixer/sound volume.

You can execute command lines using Nielm's Dynamic Customisable Menu: http://www.sage-community.org/index....uleDynamicMenu

My post was meant to suggest you use the dynamic menu to send the command "shutdown -s". No keyboard nor Girder required .

You could change one of the buttons in irremote.ini to run the shutdown utility, but I think that is a fairly dangerous way to do it, since you could accidentally press the button... I think you should stick to what salsbst is suggesting.
