Speaking of driver installs and uninstalls, Nvidia has had problems with that as well and that's why there are programs like NFR and others that will help you to remove all traces of the drivers, sometimes you need them.

As to the drivers having problems, the 71.84 version for me seems to be rock solid and possibly the best I've seen on my system yet.

What driver version did you last use before you tossed the Nvidia? Some systems seem to like older versions and some newer versions, it seems to be the same with ATI.

71.84 is the one I am using (still using the nvidia in another box). Probably 80% of the issues are with MCE and TheaterTek.

Previous release drivers were super stable though.

Assuming the front-end is close to being the same (I'm at another computer now and don't have that info), you should be able to go into the 'advaced' option in the display settings then go to the 'Nvidia' tab on the diolog box. My version actually has it called out as "Temperature Settings", where I can set alarms and shut-downs as necessary. Since the addition of the big-a** heatsink (plus the fact that I don't overclock), I've not really bothered to lock in any of the temperature settings for alarms/shutdowns.

I had debated the Zalman (quite the rig), but decided that I didn't wanna replace moving parts with more moving parts for which my PC's health was totally dependent upon. I prefer the passive system since there's nothing to break down and the GPU cooler is separate from my CPU cooler.
