Editing MPGs to take out commercials?

Just wondering what program anyone woudl recommend for editing the MPG files from Sage to delete the commercials so I can burn some shows to DVD without having to skip them manually. Sage doesn't have an option to do this automatically does it?

hmmm.

Also, what's the ebst quality setting to use if I want to cram as many episodes of a show on one DVD but still have good quality for watching on a TV?

I use NeroVision 3 to edit mpegs and authoring them for DVDs and also for "quickly" making VCDs. For DVDs, I put 1, 2, or 3 "hour" shows (about 43 minutes each "hour" after the commercials are edited out -- you can do the math as to how many hours you actually have after you edit out the commercials) on a DVD using either standard or long or extended settings in NeroVision. For the VCDs, which are "faster" to make but with okay-but-not-the-greatest videotape quality, I would put a 1 hour show (again about 43 minutes with commercials edited out) on the VCD. I don't use comskip in SageTV since I like going through commericals even though I just manually skip through most of them but when I manually skip I can still check them out quickly because I like saving some of the commercials as individual files also -- some of the latest commercials I've been saving are the "Stacked" commercials, the "Jack In the Box" commercials, and the "Sin City" commercials. NeroVision is bundled together in Nero Ultra 6, but the NeroVision that comes with Nero Ultra 6 is NeroVision 2 and I think you would want to get the upgrade to NeroVision 3 which has better editing from the Nero upgrade site http://www.nero.com/us/nero-up.php - if you already have the OEM version of Nero 6 with your DVD burner drive then you can get the Nero upgrade files or just get the NeroVision 3 upgrade file. If you don't have Nero, I think you can still get the NeroVision 3 file but I think it'll only work as a demo version. As already mentioned, NeroVision 3 has better editing than NeroVision 2 because the older version 2 editing was more clumsy to use, but if you don't edit then NeroVision2 is good enough -- for instance, my Dad uses NeroVision 2 for merely recompiling his Karaoke VCDs by taking a few karaoke video songs from several of his many different Karaoke VCDs and putting his selections on his own customized VCD without doing any editing of the videos and he takes that custom VCD when goes out to his favorite Karaoke singing place without having to bring his original Karaoke VCD discs. For SageTV recordings, if you don't want to edit out commercials, then NeroVision 2 may be good enough but if you want to edit out commercials then NeroVision 3 is better. I have looked at VideoRedo because a bunch of people have mentioned it here in the forum but I like NeroVision 3 so much better.
