Sage freezing up

OK, now that I have my sound problems fixed with 2.2.7 Im having freezing problems, screen goes black, have to ctrl-alt-del and end process on sage. Ive tried different decoders, dont know how to troubleshoot this one. Might work fine for hours, or just minutes, seems totally random.

Specs:
athlon xp2100 512mb ram
shuttle m31mn nforce2 mobo
PVR 250
radeon 9600xt with component adapter

tried the search, couldnt find anything specific to this problem, any help is appreciated.

Sounds like you may have a corrupted recording. Check your recording folder for recordings named hauppage something or other or backup your wiz bin and remove it sage will create a new one but you will lose all favorites and your recordings will be in the imported videos.

make sure you backup the wiz bin that way you can move it back if it doesn't fix your problem. actually you could just move the wiz.bin and wiz bak to the desktop with sage not running of course.

k, deleted wiz.bin, there were a couple wiz.bin.corrupted1 etc files in there too......does sage make those when there are errors?
anyways, only been watching tv for a few mins, lost my program guide as well....hopefully that comes back soon.

I'll report back

When you say that it freezes, I take it, it is while watching a recording without pressing any remote or keyboard buttons like fast forwarding or rewinding.

The fast forwarding/rewinding freezes I experience pre 2.2.7 and seemed to be decoder related and overclocking related.
But have never had a freeze since installing 2.2.7.

BTW, are you overclocking?

BARELY.....im running 150fsb on a tbredb xp2100 that I previously ran at 2330mhz for over a year....I would seriously doubt thats the problem I can play farcry at 1776x1000 res on my HDTV with no lockups or problems (just poor fps lol)
and yeah, just while watching (server or client) it will either freeze as is, or go black, hitting alt tab i can switch to another program, but sage is frozen completely. I've tried different decoders, probably all possible combinations

Hmmmm... never had that... you need to make sure that you have the latest XP SP2 and patches and have you tried Java 1.5?

OK. When SageTV freezes, and you go to task manager, Does SageTV have 100% CPU utilisation?
What STV do you use?
I think it would be a good idea, if you use the standard STV and you can reproduce it, to put a support ticket to frey.
Only once I had such trouble and it was related to corrupt mpg files in the Recordings directory. The recording of the show was split in several .mpg files with the same root filename and some of them had zero length.

Im using the original STV and I just cleared out all my recordings, so there's nothing there
I think I'm going to uninstall....delete everything and start from scratch with 2.0.20 and hopefully I dont get the java errors this time.

Playback freezes on me once in a while too - only while watching live TV.
I don't have the black screen and I can still use the Sage interface. Rloading the video renderer unfreezes usually.

Can someone explain this value more fully?

seeker/max_duration_encoder_reset - the maximum amount of time that can pass before resetting a non-multiplexed MPEG encoder, in milliseconds

Ive been getting playback freeze on me as well but mostly on Imported Xvid/Divs X (It 90% of what I watch) and its not consistent.

It requires and CTRL-ALT-DEL to repair.

Its get quite anoying when it happens

I have 2.2.7 running SAGE MC 16x9 with Xvid 1.03 Codec.

Barton 2500+ 512 Meg RAM
PVR 250
ABIT N7F 2.0
