only 2 tuners, but 3 recorders?
i have a PVR 500MCE in my sage box. i use the 2 tuners to record my shows and everything ius fine. now, i would like to be able to record some shows off premium channels- like some of the food networks, etc. for this, i need to use the tuning on the cable STB obviously.
my question is, can i simply add another capture device in sage which will be set up as the S-video input on the 500MCE card and will simply be tuned to channel 3? i know that there are still only 2 mpeg encoding chips on the card so i'd only be able to record 2 shows at once regardless of the source. but would this be possible? otherwise i need to buy a PVR150 to dedicate to this and frankly it is not going to happen enough to make that worthwhile. And, since the svideo encoder is actually the same as one of the tuners' encoders, make sure that the svideo source does not share any channels with the tuner provider lineups or else one of the tuner sources could be removed. The 2 existing sources may be using some "Cable Company" provider & you want the svideo source to use the "Cable Company Digital" provider, if it has such a choice in the source Setup Wizard. Then, in Channel Setup, remove the channels from the svideo source that are already available on the existing tuners.

okay, i was going to actually set the s-video to only use a handful of channels anyway. thanks for the tip though. i'll be careful not to let it share any since i really want the other 2 tuners to remain and do 98% of my recording. this is a sort of special case thing.
btw, i'm planning on just doing manual recordings of shows or perhaps setting a timed recording with this device. but would there be a way to use program guide data with this? i get the feeling i should start looking more into how to make full use of my USB-UIRT as i ask this . . . .
