accessing dvd drive for divx videos
Ok, when I try to play divx videos from a dvd, every minute or two the video has a stutter/i hear the drive spinup more and then the audio goes out of sync...if I then pause and then play again, audio syncs again, until 2 mins later, it happens again...making it unbearable. The read light on the dvd drive seems to be flashing all the time, but I assume the problem is the buffer runs out and the accessing is causing the problem....now, all other players I've used are smooth as silk, so what's sage doing differently?
ps. does the buffer value that is commonly increased in an attempt to smoth mpeg2 playback also effect the way it accesses the dvdrom? and why oh why do I have to change the aspect ratio manually for 16:9 dvds....is there a way to avoid that! <--- there's probably a solution for that. I do something similar but I use xvid. Never had a problem like you describe.

I have that problem (sometimes) with a Lite-On (maybe LG) 12x DVD Drive...

I think the solution is to use something like Nero's Drivespeed. I find it useful for two reasons. Number one is to avoid your problem. You can set the spindown time to some minutes or whatever to keep it from constantly spindown/spinup all the time. Number two is to reduce the rotation speed of the disc -> reduce noise
