Comskip question

OK, comskip works at flagging where the commercials are on the recording, but is there a way to make Sage advance automatically over the flagged areas? Or do you have to manually skip over them each time in 10 sec increments, or 2min 30sec increments depending on which command you use.

Depending on which STV your using (i think) you should have an option in the Detailed settings or when playing a show and hitting Options to enable auto skip. Works for me

You could also try binding the custom5 command to a button on your remote. Custom5 will skip to the end of the commercials.

Are there common changes that users have made to tighten up the comskip detection? I've had a look at the ini file, however there's not much explaination, and I rather try what others know might work.

I'm getting some segments that have gaps in the middle of the commercials. And the biginnning and the ending of the detected area it a little off sometimes.


Any help's appreciated.

The best way to improve commercial detection that I have found if you have a pvr250 is to make sure the CC detection is enabled, and add as much stuff as you can think of to the .dictionary file. I did it with several shows specifically in mind, like adding "adam" and "mythbuster" "carey", etc for mythbusters, and adding stuff like "enzyte" "coming up", etc in the commercial portion of the file.

I also tweaked the ini a bit, upping some of the brightness settings a bit because I know my "black frames" are not very black (mostly because I need to tweak the pvr250's recording brightness down a bit).

max_brightness=180
test_brightness=70
max_avg_brightness=60

Jere has a wiki page set up so people can post their ini's and dictionary files, but nobody does... I suppose I should.

I'm wondering if there is any tool that will actually chop out the commercials from an mpeg.

I suppose someone might be able to make use of this comskip output text file and use some sort of cli interface like mencoder to only encode stuff outside of the start and end frames that comskip creates. And then some how join the resulting files together.

Basically anything that does this automatically would be ideal.

VideoReDo does exactly what you want. ComSkip will even output a videoredo project file if you tell it to.
