any way to get sagetv to recognize other file types?
I have a few video items in .ogm format. I loaded the codec for it and Media Player plays them fine. Beyond Media did not recognize them either, but the was a 'patch' for the videobrowser in BM to allow it to see other types, worked fine.
Is there such a thing for SageTV? To allow me to play other video file types? |

Try adding the extension to the seeker/video_library_import_filename_extensions property line. Be sure to close SageTV completely before editing sage.properties. (And make a backup copy first.)

ok,
I added the extension, refreshed the library. It found them. But, when I went to play them, it started up media player, which crapped out with an unknow file type error. Soooo, I noticed they play in a divx player, so I renamed them to .divx from .ogm Refreshed library, voila! Sagetv found them, and plays them fine in the native player!!!! |

After altering
seeker/video_library_import_filename_extensions I got sage to play back OGM with no problems. I followed the guide over at Doom9. Has anyone ever had any look with OGG files. They play fine but they always show up in the videos section and not in the music section. It's about time that Sage supported more audio/video formats straight out of the box. |

Wierd I have alot(100s) of MKV and OGM files and they all play in Sage's native player without the need for changing the file's extention. The only wierdness I've ever noted is that Sage gets my OGM's duration currectly but not my MKVs. It will play the MKV files fine but of course skip, rewind, etc doesn't work because of the 0 length issue.
I've recently found that I can get around the 0 length issue with the MKV files, by using Haali's great filter. With Haali's filter installed Sage can correctly determine the MKV's proper length. The downside is that for some reason Sage will not play MKV files with Haali's filter installed, they fail to render properly(Sage chokes and starts playing liveTV after the error message). So I end up installing Haali's for importing the MKV files into SageTV. Once they are all imported properly(correct duration), I uninstall Haali's filter. I then close and restart Sage and the MKVs show correct length and play fine using the normal(Gabest's?) filter. However I need to do that close and restart, of Sage, to get it to work properly. If I just uninstall Haali's filter with Sage minimized or windowed, Sage continues to fail to render the MKV. I assume it's still trying to use Haali's filter. This is another weird thing since I've verified that WMP is not using Haali's filter to play the same MKV. It seems that Sage must be caching the filter somehow, as even a reload media player does not change Sage's behavior. Only a close and restart(of Sage only, not whole system) causes Sage to use the default MKV filter properly. Anyway sorry to drift OT. Just thought I'd mention the MKV thing in case you ever see that behavior. It took me forever to find a way to get Sage to import the correct duration. It's obvious that Sage's Media player has issues with non-avi files. Frey really needs to work on their support for OGM and MKV. Hopefully this will change now that Frey is Dixv certified and Divx has their new .divx format. .Divx files will eventually(basically already works, but the filters are still beta) support selectable multiple audio and sub tracks along with chapter support. You know basically all the stuff OGM and MKV have been doing for a long time. /justme |
