Question Hauppauge PVR 250 Remote

I have an epia M9000 system with a PVR250, a 120GB hard disk and SageTV. Everything seems to work fine but I do have 2 problems:

1. When I bring up a recorded show from the Guide->Recorded or the Library->TV Library I cannot seem to use the REWIND button on my Hauppauge PVR 250 Remote. When I press the REWIND (0) button it just changes the channel to 0 (the primary function of that button). I've tried to unlink the remote command via the Setup->Advanced Setup->Commands dialog but have had no success. Neither the PVR infrared receiver, nor the Actisys200L will accept any remote signals to satisfy the window that pops up when I try to link a new Remote Control button to a particular feature...Am I missing something?

2. When my hard disk is full, my sageTV doesn't seem to be able to erase content, but rather pauses and no longer records any additional shows. After going in manually and deleting a bunch of shows that I never added to my favorites, it starts recording again. Is there anything I can configure to tell SageTV to only record my favorites and to erase the shows? Also is there some driver I can update in order to get the autoerase feature to work?

Thanks a bunch in advance, I love SageTV so far and it was definately worth the subscription.

Have you gone into Detailed Setup and set the directory and how much disk space to leave free rules?

To get SageTV to only record your Favorites you can turn off Intelligent Recording. (under Detailed Setup) Then SageTV will only record your Favorites and what you watch.

I'm not sure about your remote issue. Maybe someone else can help with that.

Yes, I already turned off intelligent recording and told SageTV to leave at least 20GB of hard drive space free, but it still records random shows that are not in my favorites. I have room for it, so it's not a major problem, but it is tedious to scroll through all the recordings to find the shows I want to watch.

Are you putting it to sleep when you aren't using it? Otherwise it will continue to record on whatever channel it was last left on. It does this to enable you to do timeshifting with liveTV. And since SageTV can't tell whether you are actually watching it or out shopping, since it's lacks eyes(at least so far, give Jeff time). The sleep feature is it's only way to know you aren't currently using it.

As for the black remote SageTV actually edits some settings in a file that is used by the Hauppauge IR software. I long ago got a different IR solution since the black remote has too few buttons. The gray one is better(lots more buttons), but there's no way to ensure which one you get til you open the box.

I'll try to do some searching to find you the right file to edit and some info on editting it. Odds are someone else can post faster than I can gather up old info. Just keep in mind you may lose one option to gain another.

Say, how did you guys get the silver remote to work?

I tried installing the IR driver, either from CD or website, then installing SageTV, and I can't get SageTV to react to it at all. I know the remote's working because the "full" button (which puts SageTV into full-screen mode), the "menu" button (which pulls up the task bar, which I can then scroll around in....), and one of the color buttons, which pops up a dialog box stating that I can't run that program since I didn't install it, are working as expected.

Am I just missing a step in the middle?

I can't answer since I had the black remote. I'm now using the USBUIRT with my Tivo remote. Sorry. If nobody answers in this thread I'd post a new thread with a title referring to the gray remote.

I have the gray remote and it is working - but I didn't do anything special other than tell Sage during the setup routines to configure for use with the hauppauge remote.

Maybe if you re-run the setup wizard?

Aha, I didn't know I had to put it to sleep, that was my problem as far as the intelligent recording goes. Any ideas regarding the rewind feature on the black remote? I'm thinking of placing an order for the ATI REMOTE WONDER and was thinking of assigning A to some button on the remote and rewinding that way.

OK I don't know how much this will help. Since the shortage of buttons was my issue with the black remote but....

The file where Sage makes the changes for the Hauppauge remote software is called "irremote.ini". If you search this forum for "irremote.ini" you'll get a few threads that may help. I haven't read them all but the one called "Sleep with PVR250 remote?" loooks promising. There seems to be alot of people there who've had experience editting the irremote.ini file.

I hope the helps some.

PS:The ATI remotes are nice. I almost bought one of them instead of getting my USBUIRT.
