Antenna Signal

I am dumping DTV now that I have Sage. TiVo and DTVs days are numbered. Most of the stuff we really like are on regular network channels like ABC,CBS,NBC,FOX,and The WB. We watch little else and I suppose we can ad cable and netflix down the road. For now, we want free TV via an good Antenna.

We are in a small apartment but do have some modest attic space. Are there any suggestions on what type of antenna would work best?

Depending on how far the transmitter is from your appartment and if you have a relatively clear line of sight to it, then an indoor amplified antenna could be fine.

eg : http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...onics&n=507846

But in reality, unless you live close to the transmitter, your best option for the best quality signal is an external antenna.

From my experience, unless the signal is top notch, the quality through the capture card suffers.

Currently I have a Winegaurd non-amplified wing antenna. I really need something better. About an external antenna. What do you recommend?

Living in Europe, I am not very familiar with US broadcasting.

As a rule of thumb, if you live within 20 miles of the transmission tower you can do with a basic UHF antenna for UHF channels. If some of the channels are in the VHF band then you will also need a VHF antenna and a VHF/UHF mixer to combine the two feeds into one coax cable.

If you are a long way from the transmission tower and/or the signal is weak you will need a mast-head amplifier and larger antennas.

Your local tv technician or electronics store would be the most appropriate place to ask for the most suitable antenna(s) for your case.
