250 vs 250 MCE

Why is the MCE cheaper? Is it just the lack of software bundled with it? Does the MCE do CC? I want to pick up another card, but need to have CC, so the 150 is out. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure that the MCE is also lacking the remote.

Thanks for the info. I really don't care about the remote, I have one from my 250 alread, but I do NEED CC for comskip. It works to well to live without it. So that is my biggest concern. Does anybody know if the MCE has the ability to CC? I would imagine it does, seems like it is the same hardware as the reg 250, but without the remote. Thank again.

I'm not 100% sure about CC, but...

Actually, if you use the 250's remote, you might care about the remote because the IR software can't tell the difference between the cards & might try to use the mce card even though it doesn't have the IR receiver port. It could cause the 250's remote to stop working. Some people were mentioning using a trick of temporarily disabling the mce tuner when starting the IR software, but that sounds like a pain to me.

I also have a ATI Remote Wonder II, so I'll use that if I have problems. What is your best guess on the CC??

why are you looking at the 250's instead of the 150's? I have 3 150's and Cayar's built in commskip works like a champ.

Probably because he needs closed captioning and the 250s do that. The 150s don't-in Sage.

that is what I was thinking, but then he said he needed CC for commskip. There are other ways of doing commskip that work well. I personally would save some $$ adn go witht he newer chip on the 150. Now if he truly uses CC, that's different.

But theoretically using CC with comskip should help yield the more accurate results.

cool. didn't know that. The only time i have had a problem so far with my 150's is when I start a recording that isn't fromt he beginning. like say I am watching a movie and have to leave. Sometimes I'll hit record so I can watch the rest later. comskip went a little crazy there. otherwise, it has worked very well.

ans so that this is not a total thread jack, everything I have read says that the 250 and 250 MCE are the same card. the MCE is just the OEM version. Comes with just the card. The 250 is the retail version. comes with software, manual, and remote. also, the MCE adds composite audio inputs instead of just the stereo mini-plug. I am in favor of the MCE, but haven't found CC info. Maybe contact Hauppauge?

CC info about the 250MCE? Aside from the addition of an FM tuner the 250MCE is functionally identical to the retail 250. So it supports CC.
