I'm confused 2.2

I thought we were reveiwing 2.2.6RC. An now I here that 2.2 is out. So did we go backwards or am I missing something. I thought the next number should have been 2.3. Can someone please explain version numbering to me.

The release build drops the last digit.

Yes, the 2.2 release is in fact 2.2.7.
I guess the reason it is not 2.3 is because it is a "maintenance" release.

You'll see the file(s) named 2.2.7 when you download them.
