nvidea 6800 good s-video?
I was just given a GEforce 6800 card. I was thinking of putting it in my HTPC. Is this card any good? I am curently using a ATi 9250. The svideo looks great on my regular 36' tv with the overscan option selected. Will the Geforce have overscan? Will it look good on my regular tv? I've searced this board for this card but have not seen anyone that uses it on a non digital tv.

In general, Nvidia cards are better 'video' cards and mediocre 'gaming' cards. I've only used ATI cards once, otherwise I've always gone with NVidia. The reason behind this is that the ATI software.... well.... it sucks. Its always buggy, the installs are rarely clean, and there's always a dozen fixes requried. I've never had any issues with any NVidia cards (owned 3 so far), less standard updates.
You should find that, again in general, SVideo outputs on higher-end cards will be very similar. It's when you start getting into HDTV outputs (either with component or DVI) that the cards start to part ways in quality/ease of use. Bottom line, the 6800 is a good card and will be at least the equal of your ATI in regards of image quality. |

I have tried the Ati 9800SE and an Nvidia FX 5500 in comparison. My experience was that the nvidias Svideo output was better quality and a lot easier adjusting the overscan.

My 9800 Pro S-video out w/ Nvidia DVD/MPEG-2 decoders is hard to beat.
