why do i have to reinstall every month

after running sage with no problems for over a month now sage tv starts freezing after being started for about 2 minutes, everything runs fine like I said for about a month or so and then I notice one day that the sagetv screensaver doesn't show the logo anymore and when I try to cycle through the menu I select something to watch and then I can watch the channel or recording or video file just fine but I cannot ff rew or exit out to menu as a matter of fact sagetv is frozen and the video just continues playing if I hit the menu button and wait about an hour or so I can see the menu but it will be another hour before I can advance any further than that, my real question is why does it do this and why only after being up and running problem free for well over a month, but this isn't a one time thing this is the 4th time since I started my pvr project late last year I was feeling good about sage this time but the same old problems just keep coming back for no reason, I thought this had stopped after I installed the new 2.1.10 but I guess not and by the way I should add that since I finished the initial setup sometime around january or february I haven't made a single change to sagetv's setup just a few added favs here and there. plz hlp

This is weird.....
It seems that when this happens, you get a lot of CPU activity.
Could it be your Anti-Virus Scan Disk schedule task that is scheduled to run every month?

Any other periodic scheduled jobs that take a lot of processing and/or delete files that should not be deleted.

Maybe you disk is playing up!

Also what type of hardware to you have? CPU, RAM etc.

Might want to check for corrupt mpg files, I used to have some problems with that, but blew out all my recordings and it's been pretty damn stable since.

Been running without any problems basically for about 3 versions.. (Well, software problems that is, I got a bum tuner right now).

Me too

I'm on my third iteration of this. I'm 1 month in on re-install number 3, 2.2.7, so just a few more months before this happens again. The only thing I've done differently this time is to not add any custom stv's. I'll let you know in 2ish months. I'm a bit surprised that the stuttering and issues like this are not given a level of priority especially since they happen to so many, so often.

I wonder if it has to do with custom STVs?
My sagetv is on my main pc. so I've got lots of apps, AV, etc, with sage thrown on there with just like any other app. I install apps, remove apps, shutdown, hibernate. I've never had any instability with sage or had to reinstall for corruption in sage. But I've never used any custom stv either. running 2.1.10
