SageTV - Issues Skipping Forward/Backward
I've been using the SageTV demo version for the last several days - generally my experience has been quite pleasant. I believe I'm using the latest release from Sage.
I've only come accross 1 or 2 issues. 1. When I skip forward or backwards the amount of time that is skipped isn't consistant. I believe I"m setup up with the defaults which is 10 seconds for one set of the buttons and 30 for the other? I find that the first time I hit it on the remote I might skip forward several minutes and then it will behave (I skip back at 10 or 30 seconds at a time and skip forward at 10 or 30). When the next set of commercials come around and I skip forward again I'll skip foward several minutes. 2. The second issue is related. Often after skipping forward or backward I have image quality issues. I'm not really sure how to describe it, the image seems jumpy when ever people move (not necessarily fast moving sequences). Say if they are running it almost seems like they blur a bit or something. If I close the recorded file and then reopen everythings fine and I can carry on my way. Thanks |

I'd suspect the video issues you are having are because of your video decoders. Which ones are you using? Search around and you will find that people highly recommend nvidia or sonic decoders.

One other thing to consider is the way you press the remote's button. With the Streamzap remote, it is quite easy to get a double press if you do not remove your finger smartly from the button. Lingering even a little gets you multiple presses.

Remote and Decorder
I'm using the CyberLink(ATI) decoder selected from the Sage Menu and I also made sure to install the ATI decoder (latest from ATI). From what I understand this is suppose to be an adequate decoder (My image quality on the monitor is reasonable so it seems okay).
I have the WinTV controller that came with the PVR250 - Its the smaller silver one. It doesn't appear to just be a problem with it skipping forward twice, this thing jumps like 2 or 3 or 4 minutes at a time. |

On the video issues, if you are not using Overlay, i would try that and see if it helps over VMR9. Although, my 9600XT runs VMR9 fine.

not the only one
I've seen this too.
The jump problem, as far as I can tell, is not a simple "double press" issue in that I have FF to be 30 seconds and when this problem occurs it will jump ahead several minutes. Not just 60 seconds or even 90 seconds. I also see the "blurry/jumpy motion" problem you describe. To me it looks like a field inversion problem or the deinterlacing problem mentioned here: http://forums.freytechnologies.com/f...ead.php?t=8831 but I haven't tried the solutions outlined there (I need to get my system stable first... I'm having hardware problems). BTW, I'm running 2.2.6 RC. My decoder is also CyberLink PowerDVD so this could be the common denominator. I've been messing with the video settings a lot but I think I'm running VRM9, 3D on, Overlay (?). (can't check right now, I'm at work). In general I really like the quality from the CyberLink decoder and it consumes less CPU than the built in Sage decoder. I'd like to stick with it if I can. |
