First Post Here-Card Compatibility
Hi, as the header says, this is my first effort on this forum, so please be gentle!
Right-I'm in the process of planning a 'home brew' PVR. I've got a lot of the 'bits' in a spare PC (CPU, HDD, DVD Recorder) now I'm just scanning around for a good deal on a Shuttle Barebones system. When built, the unit will have no other function than to be a PVR in my living room, with either a network connection or a USB connection to my main PC in case I want to edit anything. In my current PC I have a Tevion Xpert 7134 capture card-It's worked great for me for a couple of years, and it serves it's purpose, though when I build the dedicated PVR, I will probably go for a hardware encoding card (i.e. a Hauppage 150 or 250 or maybe the USB unit, keeping the PCI slot free for a digital terrestrial card)
In the meantime, I thought I'd take a look around at the various software options. I'd not considered SAGETV as I thought it was a US-only thing, but the guys at byopvr.com put me right on that, so I've downloaded the trial version. I've installed it and followed the PDF manual. SageTV sees my Tevion card, but it doesn't seem to work with it. In the set up, it asks which I want to use-the tuner, S video input or composite input-I select the tuner, then it asks what tuning option I want to use-I select the tuner on the card option-then I say 'no' to the using porgramme guide information then I get the option to scan for channels. This is where I get the problem. I left it 'scanning' for an hour, and it brought nothing back. There is a list of the channel numbered 1-69, but that's all, and they were there before the scan. If I go to one of the channels I know there is something on (ch65 for instance), and hit 'view' I get an error message 'Watch Request Failed- Error -10: No encoders can tune to the selected station'.
Maybe this type of card isn't compatible with SageTV, but as it does identify it correctly, I'm wondering if there is something I'm missing?
Sorry for being so long winded-and thanks in advance for any help!
