Question Need help with USB-UIRT and 6131 JP1 remote and multiple codes per button!

Well, THAT was quite a mouthful for a subject...

Toward the end of the thread "How's your remote's response time?" in the General Discussion forum, Bartley9 wrote, concerning sketchy remote response:

It seems that some remotes differentiate between multiple presses and keeping the button pressed by sending different codes. Each press of the button sends a different code: first press code A, second code B, third code A, fourth code B and so on. Holding the button down sends the same code repeatedly. This makes sense if you think about and is the same as a PC keyboard If you press the button 10 times you expect to move 10 times but when you hold the button down you expect the action to repeat and to stop as soon as you stop pressing.

Sage was learning only one of my up channel commands eg code A so responded straight away sometimes, when the remote sent A, only on the second press on other occasions when it sent B followed by A and then on every other press . And very frustratingly, if it was on B and I held the button down the light flashed on my USB-UIRT and Sage did absolutely NOTHING but when I pressed it again the cursor shot off faster than I could follow

If you have a remote which only sends single commands you will not have this problem(It is actually the more powerful remotes which have this problem)
I just rec'd my USB-UIRT yesterday and scampered off to plug it in. It works wonderfully, was immediately recognized, and I started programming buttons. When I started using the remote to navigate the menu to reprogram the codes, I almost immediately noticed that "up" and "down" weren't working - turns out that my remote, an all-in-one 6131 JP1-enabled programmable jobber, is doing the Code A/Code B/Code A thing depending on whether you press the button once or twice.

No prob, I thought, I'll just have sage learn (for example) "up" for both "Code A" and "Code B." And then it seems as though when the remote sends the "Code B" for the 2nd press, it's actually sending Code A immediately before it - so i was ending up with "Code A" and then "Code A, Code B," therefore THREE actual signals for two keypresses.

I have done all the searching I can think of on the JP1 forums and come up empty on how to turn on/off multiple codes on this particular remote. I'll likely post a question there next, but since I'm trying to get it running with Sage, I thought I'd ask the widespread and fabuluously helpful community here first:

Does anyone else have the 6131 remote working with Sage and the USB-UIRT, and how do you have it programmed?

Only requirement: I do not want to install Girder.

Thanks a bunch!

Rob

PS I was very very impressed with the response time. Integrating USB-UIRT support into this prog was a great, great thing to do!

I have used the JP1 cable to reprogram my Scientific Atlanta remote. At first I used RC5 codes, the same as the hauppauge remote. I wanted to use is with the IR receiver that came with my PVR 250. This worked fine, however response was kinda slow.

I got my USB-Uirt the other day and thought it might be better with that as the receiver. That's when I ran into the problem you're describing. So I reprogrammed my Scientific Atlanta remote to operate with Panasonic codes, since those are not of the type you describe (double codes?).

After reprogramming and relearning the functions, Sage operates perfectly now, and my reponse time is instant, including multiple presses.

Hope that helps in some way. Basically, try programming your remote to use a different code set.

Yeah, RC5 rings a bell. It's been a while since I programmed it, and all that info has leaked out of my brain.

Panasonic, eh? Thanks, I'll give that a shot.

I have a 6131, and a UIRT working very well together. I didn't see any of the double codes you are referring too. I currently am using Girder, but I haven't always. I used it with Sage and didn't have any problems. Seems like I used the Sony SAT/PVR codes for the PVR button and have been using it ever since.

Yeah I'm not sure how many code sets have the double output annoyance. It's supposed to help with double presses. But the RC5 code set definately has it, as do a few others IIRC.

And: learning both codes _should_ work as long as no other button on the remote is pressed between learning the first code & learning the 2nd code. That's the theory anyway -- I'm not sure why the 2nd press might have a code problem like described above. But, unless you are intending to use the Hauppauge receiver, you might as well just pick out any other non-toggle code protocol & use it for simplicity.

Huzzah, it works! I'm very happy. It was as simple as changing the device from RC5 to something else - I used the basic Sony Tivo codes.

Thanks for all your help. Now I just have to get the SPDIF passthru working, and I'll be set
