Thread Subscriptions?
I can't seem to get thread subscriptions to work on this board...

Correction... all of my thread subscriptions mysteriously disappeared recently.

That's strange...I haven't done anything to the board recently that would have caused your thread subs to get deleted. What were you using thread subscriptions to do?

I use them so that I receive email notification from threads that I post to or that I choose to follow.... for instance this one!
Today I noticed that a thread I had posted in (and thus was subscribed to) was active and I hadn't received any emails.... so I went in and looked for my list of subscribed threads and it was empty....not the end of the world, just wanted to point it out and see if anybody else has had trouble. Thanks, Mark. |

I'll try to keep an eye out for this, but this one will be very difficult to track from this end if it happens again. But if it does, please let me know. There's a couple of things that can be done, but neither one of them are fun for us.

The focus should definitely not drift too far from the actual product .... but I'll let you know if this happens again.

Mark,
I've discovered that the easiest way to verify that there is something amiss is that the little link at the bottom of every page which says, "Subscribe to this Thread" is supposed to say "Unsubscribe from this Thread" if you are susbscribed to the thread (at least that's what happens on avsforum which uses the same software). On freytechnologies.com, I never see "Unsubscribe from this Thread"..... sometimes I will get an email or two from the board, but for the most part, thread subscriptions don't seem to work for me... maybe my account is screwed up, I don't know... nobody else seems to be having any trouble. |

I imagine that's a hack they have installed for the software. I've never paid any attention to it before, as I pretty much read every thread. I'll try to make some time to look into it further, and ask David about it over there.

Cool, thanks! Like I said, don't break your back or anything. It's really nice to be able to subscribe and stay subscribed to a thread, though.

Well, I clicked on the Subscribe to this Thread link, and it added this thread for me. I clicked on it again, and nothing happened - I was still subbed to this thread. So, the way it's supposed to work is that I should get an email as soon as I post this message because I posted a new message in a subbed thread. Do you have email notification turned on in your user control panel options?

And, just to add - I got the email notification from your post after I had subbed to the thread, and I don't have email notification on by default. hmmmm...

Yeah, it works sometimes. Other times it seems not to work.
My guess is that something is causing (or was) causing subscriptions to be wiped out.... that they work ok otherwise, though...and that the avsforum's "Unsubscribe..." is a hack, as you say. BTW, in case we're on different pages, the way I understand it is that: if you subscribe to a thread you are turning on email notification for that specific thread (regardless of your choice for a default in the User CP). If you set it on by default in the User CP, then you are saying, "automatically subscribe to any thread that I post in".... or am I misunderstanding the whole thing? |

I believe that's the way it works, yes.

dissappearing subscribed threads...
Ok.. I wanted to see a list of all my subscribed threads and it's blank when I hit "View all subscribed threads" If I hit the "user cp" button I can see at least two threads that have new messages... But when I hit "View all subscribed threads" they dissappear and it's blank....
