Question Why doesn't the "Source" aspect ratio work?

According to the manual, selecting Source under Aspect Ratio will "use the video source information to determine the playback aspect ratio". This doesn't seem to work. Whenever I select it, it acts the same as 4x3 for everything. It doesn't matter whether it's TV or a ripped DVD, it looks like 4x3. Shouldn't it detect the DVD and use 16x9. That's how I thought it would work. It kind of sucks that I always have to manually set the aspect ratio. What's the purpose behind this setting?

in the nvidia decoders if you select anamorphic stretch you get a wider screen displayed than with 4x3
at least for TV
it works fine for DVDs as well
giving me letterboxed or 16x9 content when needed

I get the same behavior using cyberlink decoders. What I'd like is a single keypress that would cycle through the different aspect ratios, so I could assign one button on my remote, instead of having to waste four buttons on each aspect ratio.

Potentially silly Q: Does the nvidia decoder work with non-nvidia video chipsets?

I'm using the InterVideo WinDVD codecs AFAIK that came with my nvidia card and I have the same problem: I have to manually select 16x9 when using DVDs (original ones). It would be *really* nice for Frey to fix this so that "source" aspect ratio actually works.

Page 132 of the manual describes the source setting is for playback, but it doesn't explicity specify DVD. Perhaps DVD is different since it can have a different renderer?

If it's not acting right, then your decoder is sending Sage the wrong AR info.
