All MCE 2005 remote users please help

I just recieved my 2005 MCE remote and I use Windows XP Pro SP2. My question is that I can hardly use any buttons inside XP. The only button that works is the PC suspend button and the number keys. In SageTV I can use the arrows and the "OK" button. In my Device Manager is doesn't list the remote per se. It list's 4 HID devices, but none specifif for the remote. It also lists the transmitter and under keyboards it lists a ehome keyboard. Tried Girder and I could figure out what the heck to do. I thought it was going to be easier than it is so far. Thanks for any help.

Bill

What buttons were you looking to use inside of XP? I'm not sure I'm following what did you expect this to do? It's going to work for certain programs but not do a helluva lot just in XP. In Sage you should be able to use the play, pause, etc buttons. The numbers, arrows and OK buttons. And vol up/down and channel up/down. What's not working for you? Device Manager stuff sounds correct too.

I was told the Green button acted as the left start button on the keyboard in XP. This does not do anything for me. The volume and channel buttons do not either. Even in WMP it doesn't control anything. I have it plugged into a powered USB hub. I heard that maybe I should plug it directly into the PC, does that sound right? Also if you can give me any pointers on how to use girder with this remote that would be great. Thanks again.

When Microsoft released SP2, I lost the Green Button as a Left Start key. There is no work around for this, and I have looked in dozens of places. You have two options. Get a USBUIRT, and program all buttons how you like, or Uninstall SP2.

Mike is correct. If you go back to SP1 the Green Button will work the Start menu. I have my receiver plugged into a powered USB hub so that shouldn't be an issue. What version of WMP did you try the remote with ? I have MCE 2005 so I can't compare. There are 2 ways you can use it with Girder. There is a MCE plugin. I have used that and it works well. But I have found that the HID plugin works better for me. I can even program the Green Button with this plugin. Give it a shot. Please use the Girder forum and the readme's with the plugins to get this working.

How did you get the green button to work? With the MCE plugin for Girder? Every time I tried to learn the green button it wouldn't recognize the button press. Yet the 4 function buttons seem to work ok....

Thanks,

Use the HID plugin on the Girder website.
