XMLTV is down for North America

Zap2it has changed it web layout and currently the xmltv grabber no longer can get listing. The xmltv team is currently working on a fix.

Just got a note from the xmltv mailing list saying that the problem has been identified and fixed. Therefore, pending results from a quick beta test, a 0.5.13 release should be out for us Windows users soon (anyone running a Linux box can already test out the changes).

Regards
Lester

xmltv grabber now fixed

Just an update to let you know that xmltv 0.5.14 has been released and fixes the problems caused by the recent site changes at zap2it.com. I have downloaded, installed and tested this update with the SageTV xmltv plugin and it appears to work fine.

Get it here.

Cheers
Lester

Maybe it's just me, but I don't think the new xmltv data is working with the xmltv plugin. At first I thought it worked, but it doesn't look like the plugin is putting the data into the sage epg...the guide data I am seeing is still the old data from the last working run of xmltv a few days ago.

My epg is populated through July 6th...which was done just prior to the zap2it.com site changes. I got the new xmltv version and got 9 days worth of data. Forced an epg refresh (Channel Setup -> <enter><enter><right-arrow>) and my epg data still only goes to July 6th instead of July 10th. The System Information shows that the epg has been updated, but it wasn't updated with the new data. The data for those days are in the epgdata.xml file but not in the sage epg.

As mentioned in another thread, it seems the Channel ID is changed in this new version of xmltv. It looks like they jumped the gun a little and implemented the new Channel ID of the new file format that is suppose to be introduced in xmltv v0.6.0. Oh well, it was gonna happen sooner or later. Too bad my java skills aren't as good as my perl skills

Good Catch!

Thanks for pointing this out. Can't believe I missed this! Anyways I've modified the xmltv plugin files to take account of the new channel ids in the xmltv output for 0.5.14. I've attached the new version of the files to this post. Try this out and let me know how this works for you.

Cheers
Lester

Great Job

You might also want to post to that old "subscription options" thread. I know alot of new users use that for reference in setting up their XMLTV plugin. Also alot of other threads link to it.

I'm having trouble with the new XMLTV plugin and XMLTV 0.5.14. Everything was working before, but when I updated both the plugin and XMLTV itself, I noticed the guide wouldn't pick up any new programming, even though it said it was updating itself. I deleted all the entries in sage.properties having to do with the channel lineup, and created a new source, but I get stuck at "Please wait while SageTV downloads your channel lineup...".

Any ideas?

I wrote a little java program to test the plugin, and here are the results that I got. I hope you can help me:

Z:\>java -classpath .;Sage.jar; PluginTester
Hello. Starting PluginTester.

Getting providers...

Got provider ID=867507149; XMLTV Lineup

Updating Guide,..

java.lang.NumberFormatException: For input string: ""
at org.apache.xerces.framework.XMLParser.parse(XMLParser.java:1111)
at xmltv.XMLTVImportPlugin.updateGuide(XMLTVImportPlugin.java:70)
at PluginTester.main(PluginTester.java:43)
Test complete, result was 'false'.

I have placed a copy of my epgdata.xml file (zipped) here: http://cory.metadot.com/public/epgdata.zip

I took a look at your epgdata file. Looks like you're running xmltv 0.5.15 and not 0.5.14, at least from the tv_grab_na perspective. If you look at the top of your epgdata file you'll notice that your tv_grab_na date is 20030705 whereas in my epgdata file I have a date of 20030629. Your date is cocnsistent with xmltv version 0.5.15 whereas mine is consistent with xmltv version 0.5.14.

The xmltv plugin cannot handle the multiple <display-name/> tags in the 0.5.15 output and I have no time over the next three weeks to look at this. So you've got two choices;

1) Revert to xmltv 0.5.14 (get a clean download from the xmltv site)
2) Or you'll have to take a stab at fixing the plugin yourself. It's fairly straightforward Java code.

Cheers
Lester

OK, I've patched the plugin to work with XMLTV 0.5.15. Enjoy!

By the way, I have not tested this patch against any previous versions.
