My experience
I have often wondered the same thing.
I have just started using Ulead disc creator (very very easy, including menus). The "default" settings for SageTV seems to create a bad DVD. I find for burning I need the "best" setting at/around 6000000 bps. I found out that setting it to 5000000 bps (or lower), will create a motion blur/fuzzy DVD. But thats only needed for creating DVDs, I have set 4000000 bps for shows that will just be watched in SageTV. I do like the Custom Best idea.. will have to try that next.
