ok here it is again:

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Frey Technologies\Common\EXEMultiTunerPlugin]
c:\\Program Files\\Timmmoore\\MCE 2005 STB Controller\\channelw.exe -f
-a4 %DEVICE% %CHANNEL%"
the file name is exemultituner.reg

I took out the quotes as you instructed and I took out the word command.

EDIT: whoops the last quotes are still there so I am taking them out, re running and rebooting.

It still doesn't work. What I don't understand though is that MeInMaui's instructions don't say to take out the command= or the quotations, nor to put in the -f or -a4.

Anyway, it's 4am here and I have been working on this for 12 hours so I am heading to bed. Thanks for your help. I'll update tomorrow.

Ok, if you are doing it like that then you need the quotes. Let me try to simplify this.

Go to Start ->Run -> type "regedit". -> hit ok

This is the windows registry editor. The keys are on the left. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Frey Technologies\Common\EXEMultiTunerPlugin

there should be two values in the right. Double click on the "command" value.

Then paste what appears in the "Value Data" field into a code box here.

Well, thats partially my fault. I assumed you were working directly with the registry editor.

The file you are editing is essentially a text file that will create the appropriate key. I was telling you how to edit the values in the key using the registry editor since you have already ran that file and created the key. This is what you are supposed to be doing in step 24 of the Meinmaui instructions.

Stop editing that file and follow the steps I posted above from now on to edit directly in the registry editor and get to the correct file.

If you look at it in regedit, you'll see the single slashes; if you export the registry keys, you'll see double slashes. You need the double slashes in the .reg file that is to be imported.

I only skimmed the above posts, but why are you removing the quotes and the '"command"="' portion (no spaces)?

As I said above: All you need to do to the original .reg file is change the path to channelw.exe. Please do only that. (Well, you can also add whatever parameters needed to make it work from a command line, such as the -f & -a4 parameters, but you can do that is regedit too.)

I just realized that you should be making backup copies of your registry before manually editing it. Since you are brand new to dealing with the registry, changing the wrong things can wreak havoc in Windows. I don't remember the file names, but you could Google it.

Oh, and you don't need to reboot for this registry change since it is just updating a reg value for a program that can read & use the new value every time it is run.

I must have misunderstood as I thought Peter_h posted it without that so that's why I removed it. Anyway, I added the "command=" and other quotes back in have made a backup copy of my registry and then edited the COMMAND file that you referred to. It now reads:

Code:
"command"="c:\Program Files\Timmmoore\MCE 2005 STB
Controller\channelw.exe -f -a4 %DEVICE% %CHANNEL%"
I also re-verified that that is indeed the path to the channelw.exe program, but the channels still do not change. All that changes is the data on the screen that overlays when you change a channel. The picture goes black for a second then goes back to the same station.

I just confirmed that the channel does indeed still change when going to start|run|cmd and then going to the 'MCE 2005 STB Contoller' subdirectory location above and typing in channelw -f -a4 2 541 and hitting return. It also works when using channel instead of channelw.

I guess somehow the parameters for 2 and 541 are not getting passed.

Your registry and 2.ir look fine, I have the exact same setup, and it works. Can you go to your sage.properties file, search for "multituner" (without the quotes) You should find a line like

mmc/encoders/-431556906/5/0/tuning_plugin=C\:\\Program Files\\SageTV\\Common\\EXEMultiTunerPlugin.dll

The number may be different, but the line shoudl be similar. Make sure the line
mmc/encoders/-431556906/5/0/device_name=2

is set. If it doesn't say 2, change it to 2, and try again. If that doesn't work, post all the lines with
mmc/encoders/-431556906/5/0/
There's like 10 or so of them

Actually there are a lot more than 10 of those mmc/encoders lines. The two lines you referred to had read as follows:

Code:
mmc/encoders/-431556906/5/0/device_name=StubDevice
mmc/encoders/-431556906/5/0/tuning_plugin=
So I changed these two lines as you recommended. I also verified that EXEMultiTunerPlugin.dll is in the subdirectory named Common that is referred to. Here are all of them cut and pasted from C:\Program Files\SageTV\Sage.Properties:

Code:
mmc/encoders/-431556906/2/0/available_channels=
mmc/encoders/-431556906/2/0/brightness=-1

Try changing the lines

Code:
mmc/encoders/-431556906/90/0/device_name=
mmc/encoders/-431556906/90/0/tuning_plugin=
to

Code:
mmc/encoders/-431556906/90/0/device_name=2
mmc/encoders/-431556906/90/0/tuning_plugin=C\:\\Program Files\\SageTV\\Common\\EXEMultiTunerPlugin.dll
Make sure you stop sage, then edit the sage.properties file, otherwise they will get overwritten.

I stopped SageTV.exe and SageTVservice.exe and then made the changes you recommended by cutting and pasting to make sure I did not make any mistakes. I left the other lines the way they were. It still doesn't work.

Here are what the mmc/encoders lines look like now:

Code:

Woops, yes, that won't work, I confused yours and mine, your using 5, not 90.

When you go to the sage settings, Setup Video Sources, the HD PVR source, does it show the Tuner Control: as ExMultiTunerPlugin?

I only used 5 because you said to use 5 before. My device btw is 2. But I am curious why is it 5 and not 2 or 3 as in, for example, mmc/encoders/-431556906/3/0/device_name=

When I go there it says Tune Control: ExeMultiTunerPlugin StubDevice so I clicked on it and it clicked on Change Tuning Device and the only cable box in the list was 2 so I clicked on that and then Close and now it shows Tuner Control: ExeMultiTunerPlugin 2. So I exited the setup, closed SageTV.exe and SageTVservice.exe and reloaded SageTV and it still does not work.

You can see that you are using 5 because the providerid is set.

Now that you reconfigured your tuner, look at the sage.properties again, and see if the provider_id for 5 is still the same. If it is 0, look for the one that isn't 0, and modify the 2 lines above that I mentioned for the one that has a provider_id

The provider ID for 5 is 8641761 (I don't know what it was before). All the other provider IDs are set to 0. Heres what it looks like now:

TorontoSage,

STOP! I think all the monkeying around has got you to a point where you don't know where you are. A few things:

1) are you only using one STB? Why not use the exetunerplugin and avoid a lot of this frustration?
2) In the excerpt you posted above (post #1786) you have your reg file reading:
"command"="c:\Program Files\Timmmoore\MCE 2005 STB
Controller\channelw.exe -f -a4 %DEVICE% %CHANNEL%"

What happened to the double slashes?
"command"="c:\\Program Files\\Timmmoore\\MCE 2005 STB
Controller\\channelw.exe -f -a4 %DEVICE% %CHANNEL%"

My recommendation:
Stop everything, and start over from Neilm's directions. That way you will have a fresh start. The key is to make sure your reg file is right, and also to delete the encoders from the sage.properties file. And instead of creating your own .reg file, open up notepad and just edit the one that comes with the instructions (found here: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/down...do=file&id=157)

But that is how the frustration started in the first place, ie using exetunerplugin.

I have two STBs and two HD PVRs but just have one of each connected and the STB connected via firewire so I can get one working before moving on to the second one.

I think I now exactly where I am. Only because it was suggested to me on here, instead of using the exetunerplugin and clicking on it in order to modify the registry (which I tried but it didn't work), I just edited the registry file directly, which accomplishes the same thing. The code for the mmc/encoders is posted above. The double slashes are back in (there was some confusion in earlier posts as to whether there should be single or double slashes and it seems they should be double so they have been changed back to that as you can see above in the registry file).

So I am wondering if the registry file still doesn't read right?

Anyway, I will delete the mmc/encoder lines in the registry file and start over again, but I have read the instructions many times and it did not work before. I was hoping someone could point out what is wrong with my registry file as it appears that's the only file that, in the end, is important (other than making sure one can channel change from the command line, which I can).

So I deleted all of the mcc/encoders lines in the Sage.Properties file. Then I clicked on exetunerplugin.reg (EDIT: clicked on exemultituner.reg, not exetunerplugin.reg) which updated the registry. I went back to the Sage.Properties file and took a look at it. Then I went back to Setup|Setup Video Sources to make sure that Tuner Contro: EXEMultiTunerPlugin 2 was chosen and it was. Then I took a look at Sage.Properties and there are NO mcc/encoders lines in it at all, but now channel switching works albeit it takes 7 seconds . I even did an Edit|Find to look for mcc/encoders but there are none in the files.

It's great that it works now, but what gives? Weren't we trying to get those lines just right yet now they aren't even in the file.

Did you add exetunerplugin tot he registry or EXEMultitunerplugin? Cause they are quite different beasts...

Sorry I mistyped. I clicked on a file called exemultituner.reg which informed me it was updating the registry. This file was located in c:\program file\SageTV\Common\RemoteCodes\ExeMultiTunerPlugin. I followed all of the instructions posted by MeInMaui.

I also confirmed that in Setup|Setup Video Sources|Source Details for the HD PVR it shows Tuner Control: EXEMultiTunerPlugin 2

I just dont understand why I don't have any mmc/encoders lines in my Sage.Properties registry file yet channel changing now works from SageTV. Everyone else seems to have these lines in their registry file.
