Just got a 4200HD

I have gotten as far as going into sage to add a new source - picked SGR on localhost:6969 and then select device - 1394 -

I get the "loading preview, please wait..." but then nothing. I've run past this step to see if it will work but it doesn't.

Any ideas?

EDIT - I do get the "SGRonlocalhost69691394-0.mpgbuf" in my recordings directory.

Just continue on with the setup. It won't load a preview. If you got everything working right in Graphedit and playback, it will work just fine once you've finished setting it up.

maybe i'm missing something, but i've tried that - still doesn't work. I can't seem to figure out how to select that particular device when I have my PVR-500 working.

I don't get any signal from the Firewire w/ just that as a source. I can play the dump.mpg that was made during the graph creation, so I know it works.

I AM NOT using girder - don't know if that has anything to do with it.

Thanks,
Ryan

To clarify, you are getting it completely setup and you can go into devices in Sage and see it?

Yes everything is setup. I can see it in sage. I can select it, then select 1394. I have a dump.mpg that was made after I created the graph file. The ONLY thing I did not do was girder stuff. I downloaded firestb from timmmore and will try to change channels that way or through a blaster that I already have setup.

thanks,
ryan

still no luck on this - two different HTPC's two different Cable boxes - still no answer.

I can get here:
http://img292.imageshack.us/img292/4...4errorslq2.jpg

But I get no signal after.

I want to change channels using FW - but I don't see any instructions on that? Could that be the problem. I DO NOT have girder installed.

Thanks
Ryan

That could be the problem. Channel changing via firewire is covered in both how-to PDFs linked to in the very first post. I suggest downloading the most recent one and going step-by-step through it.

I had a similar issue. For some reason I had two different sized "dump.ax" registered. I ended up deleting both from the registry and then re-registering the dump.ax for use with SGraphRecorder and recreating the GRF. Since then, no problems.

Your mileage may vary, but I followed this guide, it's very good.

Good luck!

Thanks Wade... I just recently installed a second remote HD tuner and had to follow my own instructions ;-)

run SGraphRecorder as service?

Sorry if this has already been asked/answered... I couldn't find it...

Can SGraphRecorder itself be run as a service? Either on its own, or through one of the many "Run as a Service" utilities such as XYNTService, FireDaemon, SrvAny, etc., etc.?

Just create a .bat file and stick it in your startup folder. Works like a charm.

Thanks, but I really am asking whether it can be run as a Windows service. I have to fairly regularly log on and off of the server on which I want to run it.

I've found that it can be run as a service using XYNTService.

GET_FILE_SIZE when run on different machine than Sage

Just a quick point about the GET_FILE_SIZE problem. I haven't seen this particular config discussed...

I just moved my SGraphRecorder to a different server (from the one that runs Sage). I discovered that I am now afflicted by the GET_FILE_SIZE problem. This is when running both SGraphRecorder and Sage in non-service mode.

What does this tell me? Well, what is common about running Sage in service mode or running SGraphRecorder over the network? It seems likely to me that the problem has its root in the fact that the two processes (SGraphRecorder and SageTV) are running in different Windows console sessions.

Is it possible that something about the way SGraphRecorder determines the file size, perhaps either the API it uses or a lock it might put on the file or the time it takes to answer) is giving Sage grief?

GET_FILE_SIZE... Sage v6?

Is it safe to assume that people still have the GET_FILE_SIZE problem under Sage v6? I'm considering an upgrade in order to find out, but honestly not sure I'm ready for v6 yet.

Has anyone investigated whether the GET_FILE_SIZE is being generated out of the STV during playback (as opposed to coming from something that the SageTV core is doing)?

Ok - new problem.

I got this successfully running on one machine. Trying to get it on mine.

I select 1394 - Then select Realtek AC97 Audio (only available) - when I go to watch LiveTV - i get this:

SA 4200HD Box -> PCI Firewire

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Ryan

So I got my computer to capture over firewire with vlan, but I gave up after that because the vast majority of my channels are encrypted.

My question is, can I still use firewire to change the channels? I'm trying to follow the guide in post #355, but stuck at the hex editor part. I can't find any of the values listed, although it is likely because I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm using hhd hex editor. Could someone vaguely explain what I'm trying to do, or maybe send me their file?

Thanks.

channelw

Hi folks, tried to look for this, but maybe not hard enough. I cant get sage to change the channel over firewire. the box does change when i use the dos commend -- channel /v 2 C (channel#). But when i put the -- channelw.exe -v2 C in the .ini file it does not seem to change the channel. I assume it is a slight oversight, but anyone able to point me the right way. thanks

[edit] sorry folks got it to work. although once the video starts up while the channel change is in progress, and then it tries to change the channel, it freezes the video, so not much benefit.
