Any advice? I wonder if newer drivers would help, but i tried meistb.zip and its now requiring MCE 2005 to even install anything...

Any help?
Are you sure your HD HBO isn't encrypted (5C'ed)? They could have just started to encrypt it. If it is encrypted like mine you can't use Firewire to record you will need something like an R5000 in that case.

Yes i'm sure...

I know it works fine because I can just plug it in to my Mac at any moment and it works fine...

So definitely NOT encrypted...

Here is a nice screen grab in VLC on the mac...

Your lucky the only channels I have that are not encrypted are the locals. Sorry was just a guess since I have no experience with this. I was going to try it but there just isn't enough on local channels I care to save for later. I tend to watch all my HD Live since I haven't gotten a R5000 mod yet.

It just frustrating to have it ALMOST working. I get about 14 HD channels and a few dozen SD movie channels. The SD's record (mostly ok) via 1394, the HD's don't.

What I end up doing is using the Mac to record specific HD shows and then swapping the cable back to the PC so it can get the normal SD channels...

Hardly optimal...

Question

Can anyone view this firewire setup through the MediaMVP Extender?

Time Warner finally started providing 3250HD boxes with working firewire ports

The only problem is I'm getting the jumpy/stuttering video that several people seem to be having an issue with. I've tried two cables boxes on two different PC's, with different firewire cables. Nothing seems to help.

Anyone have any insight into how to get this to work?

Also, I dont get and of the SD channels on the firewire port, is this normal?

Hey guys, looking at reinstalling and finally possibly upgrading to the newest version of Sage (trial expired a while ago). Since it's been a few months since I posted, I'll give a few details:

PC is an A64 754 3400(?), ATI 9800 pro, 1GB ram, 400GB SATA, nForce3 MB, etc. I have the Motorola 6200, and Charter service. Unfortunately, only the analog and local HD channels are not 5c'd. I hate spending good money to only be able to record analog and local HD, but Charter won't even add any more customers to it's HD DVR waitlist, and I like Sage anyway (and no extra monthly fees)...

I don't have a capture card, just the firewire port. During the v5 trial of Sage, I had a good bit of flakiness on certain channels and shows (mostly chopiness, skipping, etc. - no shutdowns that I know of). Anyway, I was first wondering if I should buy a capture card or stick with firewire. Will I be able to record anything with the capture card that I can't record with firewire? (I'm pretty sure that if the channel is 5c'd, then it just isn't output from the cable box, right? But that doesn't tell me if a capture card would view the channel or not - i.e. a 5c'd digital (non-HD) channel (even non-HBO/etc.), can this be recorded using a capture card? If so, any recommendations?

Secondly, is there potentially a bottleneck in my system that would be causing the flakiness on certain HD programs (video card, maybe?)? I actually can't remember what software I'm using for audio/video. Since I'm reloading my system, is there a current preferred software and/or installation order for things?

I'm sure I forgot some things, and probably sound like a noob, but I don't care

Just noticed CircuitCity has the WinTV-PVR 150 for $60 AR, and there are $15 off $100 coupons floating around, so I'm probably going to go ahead and get the capture card and try it out.

Does anyone have a link for the firwewire.zip. I lost it in a drive crash and am having a terrible time finding it. The only file I can come up with is the firestb.zip but this includes only an msi file and won't let me install it because if was made for MCE.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,
Mark

Can someone give me a summary on what I need to do when upgrading my analog cable with Hauppauge 350/Sage to Comcast Digital with HDTV?
Do I need to request a special box to get the Firewire port? How about enabling it?

Get the driver from the source himself. Older versions can cause stuttering.

Read the first post in this thread, it will have links to document that forum users have written. That would be a good starting point.

Gave that a try, unfortunately it didnt help.

For those that have firewire recording working, could you please post software versions. Like DirectX, video card driver, etc.

I can record perfectly with my Mac, but not on two different XP's boxes I tried.

Thanks Polen. Really good.
I just have some questions about getting the Box from Comcast.
1.) Is there a link or a number of the FCC regualtion mentioned?
2.) How can I check or be sure that they enabled the firewire port (assuming I will not ahve all the plugins installed and ready when they come).
3.) Does Comcast enable the SVideo, composite, and DVI in the Chicago area?

Am following Bohica's Mar 2005 instructions for configuring my set top box via firewire.

I do fine until I get to "Connecting the Set Top Box." The link takes me to the Green Button site, where I'm supposed to download firewire.zip. Instead, somone has changed the download to an improved firestb.zip (specifically, http://www.accidentsworld.com/tgb/firestb.zip.

After the download and extraction, I try to execute firestb and get an error message saying: "This Application needs Microsoft Media Center 2005"

All I have is plain old Windows XP Home Edition. Can anyone point me to the original version of firewire.zip or one that will work for me?

Thanks!

Same here. I finally found the answer (from http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...page=140&pp=20)
MSIEXEC /i firestb.msi IDENT=0

WonSage, let's move to the next step!

I posted a version of the drivers and command line apps over at htpcnews.com

http://www.htpcnews.com/forums/index...e=post&id=1346

However, if anyone has MCE or knows someone with it and could download and extract the latest version that would be good.

I am not sure what I am doing wrong but I cant get VLC to show the stream for the life of me.

I am using a SA3250HD connected to my laptop over firewire. I have loaded up the drivers from thegreenbutton site and everything installs fine. For some reason though, when I use VLC to attempt to view the stream all I get is a blank screen. VLC never expands to show the video like it is supposed to.

I have verified that the firewire port is active though because my TV has a firewire connection and I can view the video just fine over that.

PLEASE HELP!

Is there a way to use Sage as program guide only for a Moto 6200 box? Basically, using Sage as a firewire remote control?
What else (other than the tuner driver) would I need to install?

Thanks, Metropole; your "MSIEXEC /i firestb.msi IDENT=0" tip helped me successfully install firestb... I never would have figured that one out on my own. I'm on my way again.
