How about a future favorite option in the timed recordings?
For instance you see a commercial for a show starting in say 2 months. It's not visible in the guide yet, it's too far away. But you know from the commercial it comes on April 3rd at 7pm and will then be on in that time slot from there forward. So have a flag in the timed recording that says "add this show as a favorite". That way when it does reach a time where it appears in the guide data, Sage automatically flags that program a favorite. This would help also since some debuts are 2 hours and then the rest are 1 hour. New 24 for example. Started on a Sunday with a 2 hour show, then Monday with a 2 hour show, and has been every Monday since with a 1 hour show. This way if you never see the commercial again, it will still be added as a favorite and they will all be recorded. |

Non-Blocking Library Import Directory space.
OK, I finally got around to linking a directory from my server. It's got a lot of stuff on it but but if I make the mistake of going to "System Information" my Sage Client gets stuck trying to calculate the used and free disk space on my Library Import directories. It says "Calculating..." but never comes back. AFter about 5 minutes it claims it can't talk to the server and a minute later goes back to the same page saying "Calculating..."
It's never successfully completed. I can't get out of it either - once I ask for it, it's stuck. 10 minutes later I have to kill it if I want to do anything useful. It's probably time to at least let you back out of the page. Wholly |

Double Don't Like
I'm hoping someone's already said this but I'd really like a "NO - Not EVER" way of telling Sage that I'm not interested in a show at all. If you can have a "Favorite" how about a "LOATHE"?
I would also like my machine to sacrifice itself before recording that item - I'd much rather have to rebuild/replace my machine than rebuild/replace my brain. Wholly |

A Loathe.. LOL
I'd like a way to enable and disable favorites without deleting them.

A way you could set it up for the prefix word "The" to be stripped/ignored from the front of recordings names. Then when Sage organizes by "Title A-Z" and I look for "The Bachelorette" I can just scan to the "Bs" instead of the "Ts" because my mind is thinking that way. There are lots of show that start with "The" and I wish I could have Sage ignore that one word and then organize.

I agree with the loathe idea so that you don't have to delete the channel for UPN just so you never have to see the Parkers.
Now I know its probably been covered and I expect some flaming for not reading the tread but it is 14 pages long. That being said I would like to have some kind of support for winamps internet tv streams, it would be nice to be able to watch sifl and olie or ranttv on my big screen |

Schedule blackout hours: by default, SageTV is allowed to schedule 24/7. Blackout hours would allow for planned PC outage or downtime, plus a whole host of other things too long to list. SageTV would know not to schedule during those hours, no questions asked.
Logic builder/modifier: a basic logic screen that would let you build custom relationships and scenarios. For example - [ IF day = "Monday" AND conflict = "American Idol;Stargate" THEN recordingpriority = "Stargate" ]. This would allow the tweaker crowd to supplement the Favorites system with more complex behavior, but built in a simple gui menu right inside of SageTV.

I'm new to Sage, so I might have missed something in the docs and forums, but there are a couple of items that I think are really needed.
The biggest (for WAF) is better handling of the Music library, especially of the active play queue. I'm migrating from an Audiotron, and some of the things Sage does just seem very counter-intuitive. First, there doesn't seem to be a real "Active Queue", in the respect that you can easilly see what's in the current queue to play, you can't add things to the queue, and you can't remove things from the queue. You can just play a playlist, play a song, or stop playing. There doesn't seem to be a way to play an album, and while that is playing add another album to play without killing playback of the current album. Perhaps you could think of it as a "meta-playlist", which contains whatever the user has currently selected to play, rather than a fixed playlist for later use. And that brings up another issue. When browsing the library, I can't find a way to play selections based upon artist or genre. I can either select a song, a playlist, or an album. I've tried both the original STV and Cayars Ultimate STV, and neither seems to have this ability. It is essential to be able to drill down to "Pink Floyd" (or whatever) and then just "Play All". I guess it boils down to the fact that playing music seems to be stuck an old paradigm, in which you play a song, or a CD, or a mix-tape (playlist). Much more flexability is needed. While on the topic of music, more visualizations would be very nice (UGH is pretty much the universal reaction), and also excluding the album art from the picture library. That one raised the "What The?" factor a notch. In other areas, is there any reason you include a command for reverse and not fast forward in the DVD controls? Just curious. On the plus side, I don't think I will miss my ReplayTV's when I sell them. I never really expected to be able to say that, so Kudos. The live and recorded TV experience is quite good, and the searches and category browsers work very well (I never knew that I could find American Style Bullfighting or Curling on my local cable provider). Overall, Sage is looking like a great solution for me. But these music issues are going to be the turning point. Unless it comes a lot closer to the Audiotron's ease of use, I'll never be able to pull the Audiotron out. |

control issues
There are a few minor things I think should be added/changed. While viewing tv the osd should act as a mini guide, Pressing info would bring it up just as it is now but with the options to move forward, up a channel, etc. While the osd is up if you hit info again it should take you to the detailed info for the program listed in the mini guide. Also the directional buttons and the enter key should bring up this guide while watching a show as well.
[Edit: As mentioned here, some custom STVs have some of this ability. - Opus4] |

Upon starting SageTV, it gives you 2 options:
1. Docked Laptop - identical to desktop setup 2. Undocked laptop - disables tuners, LiveTV, and any internet requests.. but allows you full access to recordings and music

In the Recordings menu, instead of the list scrolling from shows 1-12 (for example) and then starting at show 1 again, I'd rather it not scroll passed the last show. Instead, after the last show, would be "Jump to Top".

Collecting some stats on your TV watching habits would be cool. For example:
- How much live TV you watched this week/month - How much recorded TV you watched this week/month - What show(s) do you watch the most (top 10 list) - How much time you saved by skipping commercials this week/month (this one might be tricky Better yet, collect the data continously, so you can make graphs of how many hours of TV you watch, and see if the trend is going up or down, etc. |

I would like to have each client treated as a seperate instance of sage. Meaning I would like individual play position memory, distintive recordings view, serperate IR setup, individual parental controls and anything else that logically should be seperate.
This would allow the kids computer to show only their recordings, restrict only their client, etc. |

I'm also quite fond of my ReplayTVs' ability to track position by location, so when I stop watching and go to another machine, it will either pick up where it left off, or offer a choice of where to start. |

Slimp3 support
www.slimdevices.com sells a device that uses a server on a computer to serve mp3's to different players, the thing is the server is a free download and there are emulators for the device I think it would be great to have the ability to have sagetv work as a sqeezebox emulator and use a streaming server instead of using unc folders to listen to music it would help people that have many clients that need to be able to access mp3s, plus, as an added feature slimdevices can be synced up to play the same stream at the exact same time so you could fill your house with sagetv clients that can watch all recorded and live content but at the same time you could have each client attached to the slimp3 server playing the same thing or different streams in each room

you know how the answer in a lot of threads is "go into sage.properties and edit it so that xxx=true" or false? Could we get some sort of wizard that asks us the relevent things and we could answer yes or no and then it could write the appropriate settings to the file? it would be nice if it wasn't linked to the installation wizard, so we can go back and change things if we want.
