I'd like to be able to run media refresh as a cron job or scheduled task.
I compress and archive tv shows to my video library server, which is constantly updated with stuff being added or removed, not necessarily from the htpc. If i could set up a refresh media daily/every week automatically, this would be helpful as there's one less button to push, one less thing to explain to the girlfriend and another point higher on the GAF/WAF. [Edit: I believe SageTV should already refresh its imported media info periodically. If you want clarification of what happens, any issues, etc., please post a question in a new thread. - Opus4] |

Maybe I've missed something somewhere, but is there a way to set the channel one 'x' tuner when in the setup wizard doing color calibration?
I'm having a problem with certain channels on my tuners being WAY too dark when played via SageClient and SageMVP on a Hauppauge Media MVP. So basically what I need to do is select the tuner to do calibration on but make sure it's tuned to the right channel. So far the only way I've been able to do this is to disable the other tuners (500MCE and old PVR-250), go to live TV on the channel I want before I go into setup. I'd really rather not have to disable/enable tuners while I experiment with settings. The reason I need to experiment is they look fine on the computer monitor but are way too dark on the MVP and I haven't been able to go into color calibration over the MVP and get a picture, so I have to do it on the computer. I guess what I'd like is a way to change the channels in addition to setting the brightness, etc on the color calibration screen.

Well I went through 4 pages of threads, so I did try, but might have missed it if someone else made this suggestion:
At the top of any SageTV menu (outside of Settings), I want to see if SageTV is recording, on what source, channel (if appropriate), show title, and duration. For example: Now Recording: PX-TV402U (Tuner) - Channel 86 - Battlestar Galactica - 46 mins of 60 And if you have multiple tuners/sources, it could either list all of them or just scroll through them with a 5 sec pause between. (Yes I know you can get this info inside the settings menu for your capture device, but my feature idea would be WAY more convenient, and would only take up a line.. no need to even alter the interface dimensions.) Support for two EPG lineups
It would be nice if the tuner channel lineup can pull EPG data from two different sources. For example I live between San Diego and Los Angeles and receive over the air broadcasts from both Los Angeles and San Diego. I would like to merge the San Diego and Los Angeles channel lineups so that I can select channels from each. Currently only one channel lineup (one location) is supported.
Ideally this would be supported by a Tuner1 and Tuner2 selection with different EPG guides that would be mapped to the same physical tuner. A given channel could only be selected in one list or the other. This would also be helpful for users that would like to use a modulated camera input and could then have this defined. I imagine other users would also find this function valuable. Thanks |

Just a fun idea. Not strictly TV/entertainment related, but a good candidate for the all-in-one-box mentality. ... Integrated webcam support, via a plugin, external program integration or other.
Save video messages for others (with notification on the main screen), or just have fun with it goofing off. Additionally, since a lot of people have their machines in the den/family room (with all the expensive equipment), a cam support with motion detection would be a good extra security, or just as a nanny cam etc. Additinally, if you had multiple input cards, a 3 way or higher screen split to view inputs from security cams would also be of benefit, again probably with support for a third party program. |

Closed Captions
I would really like to stress my vote for universal closed captions. It seems that us users that require CC have a lasso around our necks with happage PVR 250 written on it. With all these new capture card hitting the market and the PVR 250 becoming obsolete it seems this is a dying feature.
Why can't you join the "acceptable practice" side of the game and let those with hearing problems enjoy Sage equally. Not to mention the fact that even though the 250 is bye bye, it's still costs a fortune when compaired to other hardware cards. |

Exclusive Fullscreen
I would also like to request "exclusive fullscreen" mode for the video renderer. Using Beyond TV in exclusive fullscreen mode enables cheaper, less bloated video card playback with perfection, namely my GF 440 mx. I've also tried an FX 5500 and it shakes the image every second. In BTV there isn't a stutter or a shake to be seen anywhere.

To the best of my knowledge this hasn't been suggested yet. It has to do with how to handle multiple favorites that are back-to-back.
The current system works somewhat okay, but frames can be lost when the files are switched (which often happens at the start of the 2nd show). I like the suggestion about writing to 2 files simultaneously, but it is unclear if that is even possible. My suggestion is the ability to record a block of back-to-back recordings. This option would allow, instead of separate files, recording into one file multiple programs (maybe a text file in addition that lists the different shows listed). The GUI would probably only be able to show the first show's info in the block, but that's okay. This way there would be no lost frames and you can split the file up into the separate shows later if you wish. |

I would like to be able turn off the pausing of live TV for a number of reasons:
It requires the PVR to be constantly recording which slows down the system, increases the time it takes to change channels which is very annoying when you are trying to channel surf. The damn thing takes up precious space on my HD. Finally I don't really use that feature anyway. To sum it up it does less good to me then the toll it takes on the sytem load and channel surfing delays. It's weird that no one has brought it up before, am I the only one that feels this way? |

Me, nielm, and at least one other guy find it impossible to watch Live TV if the recording quality is set to VCD (on a Hauppauge tuner). Is this fixable or does the VCD MPEG format make this technically impossible?

a built in screenshot feature would be really neat.
press the right button and it records a screenshot to the sagetv directory/video directory or something |

Default to XDS time when available
I mentioned this is the 2.2.5rc thread also. I did a quick google to see how my VCR picks up the time from my cable provider, and it looks like it's available OOB in XDS (eXtended Data Segment), along with the v-chip info and probably some other things. Also I see mentions of reading XDS with directshow and some posts talking about it with Hauppauge.
When I let my system sync with Sage, or with time.nist.gov, my shows get about 1 minute cut off the end. Ideally my cable provider would run a tighter clock but in the end all I care about is syncing up with them so my programs record accurately. If provider time is available via XDS I think it would be ideal to use it as the default. |

Combine Back-to-Back Recordings
Offer an option that when Sage detects that there are two (or more) shows back-to-back, that it will combine them into a single recording. The way I'd see the interface operating would be that you would see a recording on the main recordings page, perhaps with the first item listed there, and some indicator that there is more than one show in that recording.
Once you select that group, you'd be presented with a list of the shows in the group. So, for instance, if you had things set up to record Lost and Alias, Sage would figure that out, and record for 2 hrs. and 2 mins (Lost runs from 8-9:03 EST, and Alias runs from 9:03-10:02 EST). If you don't do this, then you would probably have a situation where the beginning of Alias was at the end of the Lost recording. And you'd have a small break as it changes files. On weeks where you would only record one of the shows (one of the shows is a rerun), then it would work like normal, recording just the one show. I hope that all makes sense... |

Ditto on Aperry's request. That would be a GREAT feature! One addition I'd like to see to that is the ability to massage the point that Sage thinks the break between the two shows is. It's becoming so common for the broadcasters to think of the start/end points of shows to be something that they can just ignore. So often they don't follow the times listed in their own descriptions that it's become necessary to pre-pad shows by 1 minute and post-pad by up to 2 minutes just to be sure you get the whole show including the teaser/show before the opening credits and the last scene/bloopers that sometimes come either during or after the "end" credits.
Allowing us to adjust the breakpoint between the two (or more) shows to what they actually are, as opposed to what the schedule says they should be would be great.

System-wide clock padding
THis is kind of a follow up to my other post about the system clock. it would be very useful if you could specify a time offset from the Sage server clock that your system clock would be set to. Then I could figure out how far wrong my cable providers clock is, specify the offset, and still have the advantage of SNTP.

I'd like an easy way to specify a show, favorite, or timed recording to use a specific tuner.

I love Sage but there are things about the user interface that drive me absolutely batty:
1) put archived TV shows into folders!!!!! this is done automatically for recorded shows so what's the problem for archived shows? I archive a lot of shows for the kids and having to scroll through pages of files sucks... 2) while watching a show, when I hit STOP ("close file") the program kicks me back out into the main menu instead of the last menu that I was on - not intuitive at all and very disorienting, especially for casual users 3) when in windowed mode there is no quick way of switching to full screen mode (need to go into setup screen) [Note: There is a "full screen" command that can be used to toggle full screen mode; you don't have to use a menu item. - Opus4] Keep up the good work guys! |

These are top on my list.
FM Radio (many of us now have MCE cards with Radio support) I still have to have my stereo receiver for this.. I would really like to get down to just one device. Streamed/Internet Radio Parental Controls that can be extended to Video files (Imported) Audio CD Playback. After that: Weather Module Support. News Support. Comics Lightweight browser Closed Captions Video File/Subtitles. Media MVP / or Like Extender device with support for MPEG4 playback, and possiblely include a DVD player in it. Better Visualizations (Like a slideshow to music and let me really enjoy me image and music library.) Adoption of MLBDudes SageMC as an "Official" secondary UI. It is what convinced my wife this could all work, and she could use / understand it all. PS. Does anyone (Fry) still monitor this thread??? or is it dead?[Note:Just look at all the edits by Mods, mostly Opus4, and you'll get an answer. -justme] Last edited by justme; 02-21-2005 at 12:01 PM. |

More wishlist items
Love Sage!
Here's some things I think would make it even better. 1. Import Winamp playlists for mp3 and even video's. 2. Allow me to save multiple named video playlists like you can with the mp3s. The kids have a couple hundred music videos saved and would like to create playlists based on artist, genre, etc. 3. Random photo album for screensaver. 4. Currently I can browse by title, actor, catorgory, etc. I woulsd also like to be able to browse by channel. (Example: I hate movies on TBS - tonnes of commericals, content edited and beeped out). I would like to be able to search/browse by specific channel 5. I think this is more of a bug that a feature request. When browsing titles for shows I get all my photo's showing up in the right side list. 6. Slow motion feature. 7. One more. When a imported video ends it goes back to the main imported videos menu page. I would like it to go back to file it just finished. Last edited by badder2; 02-24-2005 at 11:51 AM. |
