This one's also already been mentioned....

Ability to assign a card for Live TV viewing only. This means that SageTV will never use this card for recording Favourites or manual reocrdings.

Another feature which I believe has already been mentioned is the ability to restrict Intelligent Recording to one tuner only. This cuts down on the amount of shows automatically recorded by Sage.

Auto Sage TV Client refresh

I think the ability for the clients to refresh or reconnect itself to the server would be really nice. Sometimes when I have to restart the server, I have to go to each client, shut them down, and restart them. It's a pain espcially when I'm at work and kids at home want to know why their TV's aren't working...

I would like to see the ability to run the recording section of the software as a windows service. This would allow recording whenever the computer is on. That way, scheduled recordings could still take place when my wife or kids were logged into the computer and they would not have to launch the GUI.

For DirecTV and other satellite users, a seamless integration of DTVCon or similar program to allow Sage to control the satellite box without worrying about making sure another program is already running. Not a major problem, but for new users this is a confusing setup. Thanks for a great program.

Request: Implement FindFirstChangeNotification() for Library directories, so if new files are added by the user, they immediately show up in Sage.

A Windows GUI client

Same functionality as the current client, but with a normal keybord/mouse driven interface, and following normal windows gui semantics.

How about a Sleep timer, so when you are watching TV just before you go to bed you tell Sage to shutdown in x minutes, when it hits this time out it send Sage to sleep and if you use the IR emitter can shutdown you TV / Audio Amp.

1)It would be nice to be able to call an external program from the options menu(just like detailed info) for a show and then pass that show's filename as a parameter to the program. This could be used to setup an "automatic" divx conversion. It would be better if we could call several different programs. This would allow the user to setup several levels of compression(using different codec parameters) and then select the desired one from inside of SageTV. These externally called programs should be able to be given "nicknames/alias" in SageTV for easy identification.
[NARFLEX: SageTV Studio - Advanced]

2)Related to #1: SageTv should be able to recognise an AVI version(as long as the filename is unchanged) of a show that was origanally recorded as an MPG. ie: Sage should know it's record date/time, episode title etc. This would allow the user to delete the original MPG to save space, but still have all the extra info that SageTV provides for recorded MPGs.

These two features together would allow a user to setup a simple form of transcoding for SageTV, without Narflex having to implement it himself. Of course this is just one possibility

Aside from support for dvix, xvid, dvd and vcd from within the sagetv application. I would like to request the following, which is very unique to my use:

I have a 4:3 projector, and a 16:9 screen. Due to physical limitations (throw distance) at min zoom, a 4:3 image will be projected off the screen. This is not an issue for widescreen movies (which is all I watch on the projector). What I would like is to request is a mode where the video is displayed as 768x576 (this is 4:3 in a 16:9 portion (1024x576 pixels) of a 4:3 (1024x768) display. This 768x576 video would have to also have a black frame (which would fill the rest of the 1024x768 display) so as to allow for proper video overlay.

Yes I know that powerstrip will in some ways do this, but my hardware has problems with powerstrip.

TIA

BTW, thanks for

I'm pretty new with SageTV, so if there are already ways to do the following, I'm sure someone will let me know.

1. Since a majority of programming that I'm going to be recording, and viewing on a widescreen HDTV, is still 4:3, I'd like the option to have the 4:3 image shift slowly horizontally across the screen, in the same manner dScaler does with their "Bounce" mode. This would greatly reduce the danger of burnin on an HDTV.

2. On the same note, being able to zoom letterbox 4:3 material to fill the screen would be great!

Mary H & Sailn,

SageTV offers a number of options for zoom controls and 4:3 or 16:9 modes. Go to Detailed Setup > Multimedia to see the options. Some of the options can also be linked to remote control commands to do them on the fly. You can find those in Detailed Setup > Commands.

What I'd like to see to make a great product better:

The ability to delete a show with a simple button press vs. going into a menu to delete.
[NARFLEX: SageTV Studio]

The ability to "go back" to the previous menu from anywhere, including viewing a recording or Live TV (ala hitting the left navigation button on Tivo).
[NARFLEX: SageTV Studio]

The ability to transcode files automatically, in the background from MPEG-2 to DivX or WM9.

A smooth and multi-speed ff/rw in addition to the variable skip feature.

Return focus to the calling program (IE when calling SageTV from MyHTPC, return focus to MyHTPC when putting SageTV to sleep).

The ability to toggle the OSD during live/recorded playback by pressing the Play button.

Seperate library areas to recording area, for example I want one drive to be a 'Scratch area' then if I want to keep the program in my recorded library I would like to be able to move it to another drive without fear of that drive being used as a constant record drive.

Dan, yes Sage does provide some of the control I want, if I use a window (which is 16:9) with 4:3 selected. BTW, I was looking thru the pref file and I see that there is an entry for window size and location, I assume that they are editable. Also, is there a way to change the window border color to black instead of the white which it is now?

Also, I have a question regarding epg and multiple tuner cards. If I have a tuner card and irblaster that controls a digital cable box, one that gets regular analog cable and one that is connected to a dish, can they all have different program guides? or at least is there a way for sage to know that "speedtv" is only available to the tuner connected to the dish and the local access cable station is only available to the tuner connected to the analog cable? If this isn't yuet available, I would like to request it

I would like to extend sailn's request.

It would be great if the window border could be made any color. Especially transparent ie like icons on the windows desktop. This would help those of us who use SageTV in a windowed mode on another monitor/TV that is still consider part of our windows desktop.

Oh yeah... and a max. episodes function, like All, 1,2,3,4, or 5. I record some things (like the Screen Savers) and if I don't pay attention for a few days, my drive fills up with them.

Don't forget that other Tivo Fav. the "Keep until.." option of recordings.Edit:Added to my satisfaction 1.4.7, Thanks.

Although in Sage I guess it would have to be modified so that "keep until I delete" was "add to library automatically".
Also to reflect SageTV's principle of keeping shows when there is space. The show could be marked as "watched" or something similar once it reaches the keep until time. This would allow the show to stay on the list if there was still space, but also allow Sage to delete it to record new shows.

Here are two more suggestions.

1. It would be nice if the record key worked when watching a program. This way you do not have to go to the EPG and hit the record key or select the record option and then back to watching the show. This would be especially useful in multi-card setups.
[NARFLEX: SageTV Studio]

2. We all know that Windows is/was not designed for the 24/7/365 environment. If would be nice if SageTV could automatically reboot the system at some user defined interval. Of course it would be an intelligent reboot, i.e. it would only reboot if a show is not be recorded and no clients are attached. Maybe a user defined window would be nice, e.g. 2AM-5AM. A more generalized/powerful version of this option would be to provide a way of telling SageTV that you want to allocate a certain time slice (15 min, 1 hr, 2hr, etc.) per period (day, week, month, etc.) and then execute a certain operation when that time arrives. The operation to be performed could be a reboot, disk defrag, backup, etc. Again SageTV would schedule the function only when it knows that it does not have to record anything.
