After having my first experience with a child getting hold of the remote for the PVR adding a lock to the setup menus so your kids can't bugger your SageTV setup would be a great idea!

Change Request - Folders in Archive!
Am I the only person that thought there were going to be folders in the recordings archive in 2.1? Or am I missing something here?
There are a bunch of programmes that I have SageTV record all the time that I want to keep for a rainy day - it's a kind of hoarding thing I guess. So I stick them in the archived shows to get them out the way of the stuff I want to watch now and to be sure that SageTV doesn't delete them. But the archive doesn't have folders - I've got 76 archived items now and it's turning into a big mess - and I'm archiving more every day! Any chance that we might have better (or even basic) archiving features in the next release? |

I think my requests have been asked already, but just in case:
1. Show renaming. Quite often, the show recorded is not what it was supposed to be. I'd like to keep what was recorded, but only if I can get the right name associated with it. 2. Playlist (Que). I'd like to be able to line up some shows for playback. Even just a "Play Next" button (plays this show as soon as the current show has ended) would be fine with me. |

The F icon on the upcoming recording guide is great (via NielM plugin) but what I would really love is that icon to appear on the program guide. It would help to determine whether a program supports first runs or you need to get all of them to get any of them (happens a lot for me).

The Non-Hardware encoding issue.
I currently own a PVR-250 and a ASUS 7134 which I would like to use in SageTV. 1. As just a tuner: - One hardware encoding card for timeshifting, etc - One Non-Hardware encoding card for viewing LiveTV 1. 1 N-H encoding card & 1 H encoding card, both for timeshifting, etc. Computers with a decent CPU could handle it. And the market for SageTV would be open for users with only N-H encoding cards. Is this feature possible? |

Playing video files store on other computers on my LAN is always very choppy even at 100Mbps some precaching or buffering of video would be a good idea.
An option for PVR350 cards (or any other hardware decoding cards) would be to add an option where output of MPEG-2 is sent to the PVR350's TVout and all other formats are sent to the main video card, both cards could be connected to the TV via a splitter and the CPU would only have to work hard when playing non-MPEG-2 video. 2 things would be needed to make this work: 1- Separate overscan settings for PVR350 and video card 2- Display generated by the output not currently in use would have to be off to prevent conflicting signals across the splitter |

Padding variable in SageTv config file Please
I really really (And a lot of others) would like to have a variable to padding feat. so Sage would automatically start a recording a few minutes early and end few minutes late.
A variable to maybee +-5minuttes ? Since many networks don't always run their programs right on time!. I know that some of my friends (The enemy users of Beyond have this feat. ) But I love Sagetv! But I dont want to add the padding every time I schedule a recording that would killl my XMLTV setup... Also a episode numbering field to support the XMLTV standard: <episode-num system="xmltv_ns"> . 187 . </episode-num> Just my 2 cents Keep up the god work! Here's a quick one maybe. Occasionally I want the OSD to stay on the screen. Maybe a double tap of the OSD button on the remote could put it up indefinitely. Make it go away with another tap of the button. Sort of like some backlight situations. I don't want it up for a long time under normal viewing circumstances, but, for instance, if I am looking for something in a show, I'd just as soon it stayed up for the duration. Possible? Impossible? Stupid? Enquiring minds want to know.

the web-based scheduler - ANOTHER plea
I've been using Sage for about 9 months now and this continues to be my #1 feature request. I travel a bunch and spend time working at my office and at friends' houses, and these are often the times when I'd like to schedule my box.
I also feel that the lean-back (sitting on the couch with the remote, watching tv) way of browsing programs for upcoming recording sometimes works for me, but more often, I think of what I'd like to watch when sitting at my desk, when I'm leaning forward. And as deciding what to watch, I often like to see what other people think, or look the program up on a website or IMDB before recording. This is all much easier from a web-browser than from sitting on the couch, or from using a remote desktop app like VNC, which is what I do now and makes things really clunky and slow. Plus, browsing something as information intensive as an EPG for the next week is just much quicker on my desktop with a monitor 2 feet from my face, and a comfortable mouse and keyboard, rather than a limited functionality remote and a little wireless keyboard like the one I have at my couch. This is the biggest factor forcing me to consider switching platforms. What do you guys think?? Quote:
my plea was answered! and really quickly: http://forums.freytechnologies.com/f...ead.php?t=8426 I've installed it and, in a word, it's great! Last edited by Opus4; 11-22-2004 at 02:58 PM. Reason: combine 2 posts |

A file management interface for moving, copying, renaming and deleting media files would be really handy. Also being able to add notes and other info to a file would be useful as well.

MovieLink.. etc..
Has anybody thought about adding an internal connector to an online movie rental place? I see Tivo and Netflix are working that out.. if Sage could somehow pull up an interface to an online movie rental place, that would be SLICK!!! Probably would involve too much 1 on 1 work with the online distributor, but man that would be nice!!!!

Multi-User Support
Great product. I try to convince everyone of this product versus TIVO or similar product. Two possible product enhancements I can use:
1. In SageTV/Client create user logins/access methods. Then when I request a recording it will show in my available recorded shows. I am in a household that has 4 adults and 3 children. It would be great that I only see the shows I requested and everyone else sees only their shows. 2. On Client software have the ability to use two output displays. On a PIP TV, only require one PC and have it drive both pictures with different video streams. Keep up the great work. Thanks for listening to the user community. |

How about a RECORD NOW option!
I hate football. I hate most sports that go long and interfere with regular programming.
I have "COLD CASE" set up as a favorite to record every Sunday. Of course when the stupid game goes long, everything goes over. So here it is, 8:23PM and SAGE thinks it's recording my show, but as we all know it's recording "60 MINUTES" instead, because they were bumped because of the game. How about a pop-up menu that says two things: "Start new recording from this point" and "CANCEL" Selecting "Start..." will bring up FOUR more choices: "FOR 1 HOUR"..." FOR 1.5 HOURS"..."FOR 2 HOURS"..."UNTIL MANUALLY STOPPED"..."CANCEL" If recording conflicts with a later recording or one on the same channel a window appears that says "OK to overide recording conflict?" (show a list of shows that will be affected, and have two simple choices: "YES"..."NO" The setting up of a manual record takes way to long! I don't always plan ahead and the tv scedules are always in flux, HELP!

Full native MCE remote support
Wouldn't even be that hard - SageTV 2.1 supports all the buttons except the ones that use the WM_INPUT method.
I'd really like to eliminate Girder from my next system configuration. |

1. More options for setting up priority of video directories and ability to choose recording directory of show in favorite options
2. Auto-archiving feature, which would move files automatically, based on user options, to either another video directory or an archive directory.. and this directory could be local or UNC. 2(b). Auto-archive burn to CDRW/DVDRW. |

1. A way to set a show up to "watch" not record though... my t.v. can do this, can you make sage as well? I know I could set it to record, but that defeats the purpose of my request since it does not change the channel when the show comes on.
[edited to further explain] after I set a show to "watch", I want sage to automatically switch from what I was watching to the newly setup show to be "watched" (confused?... I started a thread: http://forums.sage.tv/forums/showthread.php?t=8680 ) 2. A way to watch a show without it showing up automatically as a "liked" show... the only reason this is needed is that my woman watches the news alot and sage thinks "hey they watched this show till the next one came on so I marking it watched and liked".... problem with that is that I don't want it reflected to IR that I like watching news and so it will record all of the news airings, because I don't want to record that crap... basically it would be cool if IR could differentiate (immediately, instead of over time) that I don't want to record news stuff at all amongst other shows. I had turned IR on at one point in time and found that it had set up 800+ things to record over the next week... I don't want to go in a say I don't like stuff 800+ times that would suck!

Opus suggested that I re-word this request and re-submit it to this thread. So, here are some problems/suggestions for Timed recordings.
For my example let's say I want to record Dinner and a Movie every night (let's pretend it comes on every night) so, since I cannot create a favorite (the title and actors change nightly) I must create a Timed recording. Here are the issues: 1. Timed recordings are treated as redheaded stepchildren, as such they do not get a favorite added for them, even when they are recurring. What I am looking for here is the ability to set the max recordings settings, or the Manual/Automatic delete flag. Right now you can only adjust the recording quality and the padding. 2. Even if a timed recorded show lines up exactly with show times and is on a channel listed in the EPG, it does not inherit the EPG data. Instead it is just titled Recurring Timed Recording (or something to that affect). This makes discerning between multiple timed recordings very difficult. 3. There is no way to rename timed recordings within SAGE to give it a more meaningful name. Here are the solutions. 1. Treat a timed recording just like a favorite, where all properties can be changed. 2. By default, inherit the show that is currently playing, if a Timed recording is recording on a channel that is listed in the program guide. 3. Allow Timed recordings to be renamed. In fact, this option should be available for all recordings, not just Timed ones. That way, before my mother comes over to visit, I can rename all of the Real Sex episodes I recorded from HBO to something like Billy Graham's Hour of Prayer". |

1) A web UI, so that I could schedule my shows from the office.
And, maybe related, a thin client - ie, something that doesn't sage 30MB and 1min to start, when all I want to do is manage my favourites and recordings. 2) the ability to migrate from one hard-disk location to a new one, so that I decide to consolidate my video files on a new HD, I don't have to lose all of the recording and TV guide information. 3) automatic backups of the infamous wiz.bin file, a-la automatic registry backup system the WinXP has adopted. That way, when the wiz.bin file is corrupted, and the wiz.bak, I'd be able to backtrack until I found one that worked. |
