Integration with web based episode guides like http://www.tvtome.com/.
It would be so slick to know what season, episode, etc. for shows. This would be great for LiveTV as well as organizing your SageTV Recordings.

Wow, that's a great idea! I never thought of that, but that would be excellent. I second that suggestion!

I'd like there to be an option to loop a specific video file as a screensaver when in sleep mode.

I'd settele for a screensaver that works. The current one is useless on a plasma screen as it doen't position the logo randomly, after a while it leaves distinct vertical stripes unused and hence a different lumence

Don't know if this has been asked...
Favorite Recording Option: "record at most". It's similar to "keep at most", the problem with which is that for shows I just want to watch any old episode of once in a while, like Cops or Blind Date, which come on 20 times a day, if I keep at most 5, it's almost constantly recording episodes, and the whole collection of 5 records over itself almost daily, even though I will watch one a week, if that. I just want it to build up a collection, and not record it anymore - and be smart enough to factor that into favorites recording scheduling priority. |

I could use a startup log.
Several folks have gotten stuck during startup at "Priming Seeker" or a black screen just after that. (Seethis thread for details.) It turns out that there is one bad media file in a video folder. Delete that file, and Sage loads fine. Trouble is, how do you find it? A startup log that detailed this - "Scanning file d:\Tvshow.mpg..." would let us know what the last thing looked at was, and help solve such problems. For example, say, the same log file that the beta spat out, only we wouldn't need to keep it forever. Or could even set a flag in the Properties file to tell Sage to create it. |

This has probably been requested before. An easy one. How about a red tray icon when SageTV is recording. For those of us who are not running a dedicated PVR machine, it would be nice to know at a glance that SageTV is recording a show so as to avoid running total hog programs that might screw up the recording. Animation not necessary. Just change the color of the center to red.

In looking at the list of command codes, there are two that I'd like to see:
Restore and Minimize With the ability to control SageTV when it loses the focus, it's nice to minimize it. Once minimized, it would also be nice if a command like <menu> could also restore the window so you can see what you are doing. Minor mod to irremote.ini if the command code exists. That being available, then it would be nice to be able to assign a remote button to minimize it again. Mod's Note: I would PM you, but I see you've disabled that. Update: oh, it has been enabled now. For now, you could try sending the WM_SYSCOMMAND (274) message with one of its possible values for wParam (lParam is 0): SC_MINIMIZE (61472) or SC_RESTORE (61728). Just for the fun of it, you could send wParam = SC_SCREENSAVE (61760) or SC_MONITORPOWER (61808), but for power, lParam would be 1 for low power or 2 for off. The next problem is that you have to send it to the class for the actual visible window, which is "sage.d", and the window name, which is "SageTV". This is different from the window that receives the command messages. - Andy

* For those of using using DirecTV via the serial cable, it would be nice to issue the "Disable IR" command while recording via SageTV. This would prevent accidentally changing channels via the regular DirecTV remote.
* Also, for DirecTV, when viewing local channels from an antenna connected through the box, make sure the TV/SAT setting is set to TV. Whenever my box loses power and is turned on, the setting reverts to SAT, which causes the antenna to display noise.

Enhancement requests
I won’t be able to read through all 17 pages of this thread so I apologize in advance if some of these have already been noted. Also, if it is important I’m running 2.0.20. Now for my input…
I find it frustrating that when the “right arrow” button is used to “drill down” into the context menu for a specific show and then “left arrow” to move back up that the selection has changed. The list should not change in any way. For example I often go through and cleanup shows. I constantly have to go back and figure out where I left off in the program list after drilling down to delete. The normal and selected backgrounds on many of the lists are way too similar. If either the top or the bottom items are selected I find myself having to move the selection in order to identify it. Possibly my eyes aren’t what they used to be but this is just basic interface design. Possibly I don’t understand the model but I think I need separate directory import lists for music, photos and video. Recently I purchased a large NAS device and created music, video and photo directories. I then mounted these directories to M:\, V:\ and P:\ on my sage box and added these as import directories. When I did the import, all of my music showed up in the picture browser. This could have happened because I have album art in each directory but that just exacerbates the problem. Along the same lines I want my television recording and “library” to be optionally stored in different disk/directory lists. When I move a program from recordings to library, the file should be physically moved. This offers me more control over disk space usage. BTW I would be fine if the television and the video library were the same thing. In fact I was surprised and initially confused that this was not the case. The television library should support the same folder model as does the television recordings screens. +1 to audible button clicks. +10 to closed caption text. Automatic background commercial tagging and commercial skip during playback. Just make sure there is a visual indication about how long (i.e. minutes/seconds) the skip was since commercial detection is never 100%. I hope that all of these make sense and that I have not overlooked obvious existing solutions. I appreciate the opportunity to provide feedback in the hopes of making an already good product great. How about a new, post 2.0, "OFFICIAL SageTV/SageClient FEATURE REQUEST/UPDATE THREAD"
A lot of stuff in here has already been done, just a thought, kminder just reminded me it would be nice to have a clean thread. |

It would be nice if Sage would automatically start a recording a few minutes early and end few minutes late since many networks don't always run their programs right on time. I hate missing the end of SouthPark! This would feature should automatically detect when two sequential programs are going to be recorded and simply end the first and start the second at the time indicated by the EPG.
Mod's note: While there is no option to automatically add padding to every recording (could be nice), you can add padding to Manual Recordings & Favorites. Also, there is a property setting for the last part: remove_padding_on_back_to_back_favorites. Last edited by Opus4; 09-21-2004 at 09:19 PM. |

Here's one. I would like to see an option for the SageTV volume control to specify the name of the control to use to control the volume. I use a SB Extigy and listen to a mix output. I would like the SageTV volume control to only change the Wave volume, not the master. Additionally, the Extigy mixer calls the main volume "Play Control" not "Volume Control" , which is apparently the name that SageTV is controlling, so SageTV can't find it and control it. Either way it would be nice to specify the control name as a setup parameter.

Actually, I'd like to see SageTV use the DirectX (or whatever) volume like I believe WinTV does so it doesn't mess around changing any of the mixer volume levels. It's VERY annoying if you turn up the volume for a TV show and then some bell or beep from Windows goes off so loud it throws ya across the room!
Of course, this could be a decoder type issue, so I'm not sure how it might be implimented into SageTV. Also, not sure if that would mess up those using digital SP/DIF output for 5.1 sound though either. Last edited by mls; 09-25-2004 at 03:27 AM. |

V2 interface requests (tweaks)
I would like to see an option to control when the OSD is activated when using a mouse. Prior to V2, it was activated by a mouseover event of the video window. Since V2 has been released the OSD is activated by a mouse click. Can this be a user configurable setting to either way and/or both?
I would also like to see a right click menu option when right clicking on a show listing in the EPG that would have context based options such as Record, Watch Now, Add To Favorite, etc. in the Live Guide and Delete, Watch Now, Clear Watched, etc in the SageTV Recordings Guide and something similar in the SageTV Scheduled Recordings Guide. I would also like to see an all inclusive guide similar to the previous version prior to V2. I found that a lot more convenient and straight forward rather than having to go to different windows/menus to see the information I want to go through.

Multimedia
I'm just getting started with sagetv. I'd like to second the request to be able to specify pulling which directories to pull mp3 from, which to pull photos and which to pull videos. I'd envision a grid with multiple directories as rows and the different media types as columns.
I'd also like an easier way to switch to a screensave mode that would create a random slideshow from all photos and play random mp3s. It would be nice if the music remote control keys (such as volume up/down, etc.) worked while displaying the photos. Basically, this would be adding photo display to the music jukebox instead of the waveform visual. Thanks |

I think I have a unique feature request:
On the remote I use for Sage, there is a button labeled "hd zoom"... it would be nice if I could map the same ir signal to 4x3 and 16:9 aspect ratio modes (in other words, "hot swapping" between the two), doesn't matter if it does it in cycles for three or more modes because I only use those two. If anybody is confused, think about the sony tvs (others may apply here too)... if you want to switch between the video sources, you have to repeatedly push the "tv/video" button until you get to the correct input. a better way to do it would be to give the ability to assign different aspect ratios to the tv/recordings mode and a the dvd mode in sage P.S. studio would be nice, but I'm willing to wait until it's perfected and maybe closer to a "WYSIWYG" editor |

I would like the navigation "progress bar" graph, which shows you your position in the show while viewing, to be modified so that it's background color, whatever that be, alternates between a darker and lighter shade of that color, with the change in color intervals spaced out to correspond to 1 minute intervals throughout the program.
If I am watching a show, and want to fast forward, say 2 minutes into the future, by clicking some point ahead on the progress bar... I currently have to make a guestimate on how far out to click. This distance changes based on how long the program is - with 2 minutes being represented by a longer space for a half hour show, and shorter one for a 2 hour movie. I believe that alternating the colors to indicate 1 minute intervals will help give my subconscious brain the extra information required to make my guestimates of where to click far more accurate. |

Some type of file management funtion would be real nice.
It would be very nice if there was a way to either move recorded shows from within sage from one disk to another, or if an acceptable sceme (to zap2it) could be devised a tool to edit the locations of the show files in the wiz.bin.
If neither of these options is reasonable, might it be possible for sage to add previously recorded sage programs back into the wiz.bin by querrying the zap2it database and then appending the wiz.bin. TIA |
