I know you'll never be convinced that using a static ring buffer for live TV is the way to go, but at least a separate folder with a quota on it would be nice, in case a person forgets to "sleep" the software when done watching. Seeing all of the clutter in with my favorites is annoying.
Another thing -- maybe this exists already, I am pretty new and don't know yet. The favorites should go into a folder of their root name -- Friends episodes in a Friends folder, ER episodes in an ER folder, American Chopper episodes in an American Chopper folder, etc. This would clean up the view quite a bit and make it easier to navigate when lots of shows are hanging around. I'd like to see a "sequential play" function -- a playlist for recorded videos. I want to roll off some TV episodes onto video tape for longer term storage. At this time, I have to play one, stop the tape, queue the next show, start the tape, play the show, etc.

-* DVB support *-
I have a DVB-C card and would buy SageTV immediately if I was assured that DVB-C support would be implemented in the near future. Thanks.

Client request:
Have the ability for choosing a "remote site" type of setting where one can choose very low bitrates such as 100k-200k without affecting the quality of recordings. |

Add automatic commercial skipping, which you can undo in case of a mistake. |

How about a way to have your imported recordings use their format size, and live tv & recordings made within Sage use the fill setting? I have a lot of movies that I've imported that are widescreen, but with the setting on fill, it of course stretches them to full screen.

-- Urgent request ----------------------------------------------------
1) Some way to specify that Live-TV should not override manual and favorite recordings. When I am watching a presently recording show. Sage seems to assume that I am watching live-TV. Consequently if a scheduled recording is about to start it pops up a box with the question if I want to allow a channel change so the recording can take place. This question unfortunately defaults to "No". The problem is that I might have stepped out or switched to the browser or something like that. This means that the default wins and I miss a show. The simple solution to this would be to make the default configurable, or to set yet another default action to use after a time-out. A more convoluted solution would be to have a "Live-TV" line in the Favorites Manager so the user gets to set which favorites get priority over live-TV and which don't. For good measure there should be a "Manual Recordings" line as well, so the "Live-TV" line can be placed over or under it. This would of course also mean that the user should be warned that a current or imminent recording will be cancelled if the user tries to watch Live-TV. Demideus: confirmed fix as of 2.0.17rc2. -- Wannahaves ------------------------------------------------------ 2) Cancelling Live-TV (and going back to the menu or guide) when the back button is pressed. I don't just mean leave the video, but stop showshifting (recording). Demideus: No longer needed now that recordings will automatically override Live TV in the background (and the fixed PAL OSD on the HP-350 is actually transparent) 3) Not using the Left button to go "back" to a previous screen, use the Back button for that. Not using the Right button to enter a menu item, use the Select button for that. In short, cursor keys should not be used to leave the current screen. This should make the UI more consistent to use. -- Wishful thinking --------------------------------------------------- 4) Tie the video preview window in with the "Prevous channel" function so it can be used for picture in picture. Previous channel would then be used to swap these pictures. It might not be possible to render two screens at once on hardware decoders, so there it would probably be limited to menu's. 5) Have a mosaic page where several stations are placed in a grid. Have any free tuners flic through the channels to provide stills of what is currently playing. If more than one tuner is available then ne might be dedicated to streaming the highlighted channel. The more channels that are on the same page the longer it takes to fill the initial stills, so maybe the number of stations on a page should be kept low (maybe configurable 4, 9, 16, 25?). 6) Peace on earth. Oh, wait, wrong forum... Last edited by Demideus; 04-28-2004 at 08:40 AM. |

- Case insensitive favorites.
Let's not miss out on shows simply because the capitalization of the title in XMLTV has changed. |

How about adding FM radio tuner support? I would love to get Car-Talk every week... Just timed record would be OK...

Have add favorite by Category also process sub-categories. Or better yet have add favorite by Category list category/subcategory combo's:
Film ('Film' in either Category or SubCategory) Film / * ('Film' in Category) Film / Fantasy ('Film in Category && 'Fantasy' in SubCategory) Film / SF * / Fantasy ('Fantasy' in SubCategory) * / SF |

feature request: default recording padding
(http://forums.freytechnologies.com/f...&threadid=4885)
Some time ago I asked if anyone had knew of a trick to expand the recording padding by default, no luck. I tried myself adjusting the epgdata.xml, adding 5 extra minutes to each shows end time. Unfortunately since shows then appear to be overlapping, sage (or the xmltv plugin ?) ignores the show completely. In Holland most of the shows on the commercial stations are late. When scheduling a recording I find in 9 out of 10 cases I'm missing the end the show. Adjusting the recording endtime/padding for every recording every time, is becoming a bit silly, and doesn't belong to the hightech, superiour recording device my htpc with sagetv should be, can be and actually is ;-) The request: A line in sage.properties to specify a default recording end-/starttime padding would really be great. Thanks Sweep |

Intelligent Recording without the recording part
I used to use a Tivo, and I would occasionally find value in the Tivo Suggestions - although most of the time I just used it more as a free space indicator (ie; if I had 10 recordings, I knew I had about 10 hours of free space).
Since switching to Sage, and no longer needing to guess at how much free space I have, I would like to use IR, but I don't want to get back into the situation I was in on the Tivo, namely having to guess at how much free space there is. What I would propose would be another option in the Schedule Recording page, what would let you view effectively IR suggestions - similar to how Tivo lets you view suggestions. In this way, without using IR all the time, I could check it out once a week and see if it's making any suggestions that I would like to record - if so, I could just manually select it from the list. |

I have a couple more things that might be nice.
For favorites, be able to separate first runs and reruns of the same show into 2 favorites groups. Helpful if I want to change the quality or time offset. Also, re the offset, it would be nice to be able to have the offset and then when the conflict is over, record the 2d show. eg, right now if I have a show at 7 and another at 7:30, both to start recording 30 seconds earlier, only 1 show can be chosen. But I would like to start 1 at 6:59:30 and the next at 7:30. (offset for one). if show #2 was offset to start at 7:28, and show #1 is still recording, it shouldn;t cancel # 2 but go ahead and start recording it at 7:30 or allow us to change the recording time. I think we can go back into the recording guide adn do it per show, and do it manually, but it wold be nice to take care of it in the favorites menu system wide. you can keep an alert there telling us o fthe conflict, and ask us which to choose as more important, but don't make us cancel one.

Recording Information:
1) Have the show-info, the like and the watched buttons work on the conflicts. - On the conflict itself for the show that is mentioned. - In the resolution screen as above for "Do Nothing" and for the show to override in the other options. 2) Have the show info of the aforementioned shows visible in the top third (as in the EPG, recorded shows, etc....). This might mean that the resolution screen has to be promoted from a dialog to a true screen. 3) Add an indicator to the scroll arrows on the right to show how far in the list we are and how much of the total list is represented by the current screen content. In other words make it at least visually a scroll bar (No doubt mouse-users would want it to be a control as well). 4) Have an indicator for the options on the resolution screen to indicate which options are already active. Maybe something with check boxes? (or to keep in style, green buttons) L8r, D |

View Upcoming Recording Schedule:
A new schedule display that is organized like the EPG: +-----------+-------+-------+-------+-------+ |.<date>....|.18:00.|.18:30.|.19:00.|.19:30.| +-----------+-------------------------------+ |.<Rec.1>...|.<show.1>........|.<show.2>....| +-----------|-------------------------------| |.<Rec.n>...|.....|.<show.3>.|...|.<show.4>.| +-----------|-------------------------------| |...........|..|.<show.5>.....|....|.<show.6| +-----------|-------------------------------| |...........|......|.<show.7>.........|.....| +-----------|-------------------------------+ The first rows are reserved for the capture devices and their recording schedules, and the other rows are for not recorded favorites and IR-suggestions. Highlighting a recording show should also highlight (or otherwise indicate) the first alternative chosen when the recording show is set to watched or dislike. This would make it easier to judge what IR-suggestions to leave and what IR-suggestions to "dislike" because there is a better alternative. Or maybe to create a new favorite for an alternative, so it will overrule the recording IR-suggestion. It would also be nice to be able to overrule favorite ordering from the alternative favorites on this screen. L8r, D |

Last suggestion (for now):
LiveTV Guide: Have markers in the shows to indicate that these shows are going to be recorded. This would give us visual feedback onto which of the favorites and RI-suggestions are going to be recorded. L8r, D |

I have another idea which relates to the search function.
Since we can only search 14 days of programming at a time, it would be nice to have a group of previous searches that we can search every 14 days. I know there are recent searches, but I''m thinking of something different. Say that every 14 days, I want to see if Joe Schmoe and Jane Plain are listed in any shows. So the first time I search for Joe Schmoe, it would ask me if I want to do a repeat search on him. I don't know the exact terminology. So I say sure. Same happens when I search for Jane. Same happens when I search by title, etc. But if I only want to search for something like 'Kentucky Derby' once, it doesn't have to go on that list. I choose what's on the saved list. Then after the 14 days when the new data is there, I can go into search, click on 1 button and it will show me all shows with Joe, Jane and others I selected, in 1 list. The reason I think this would be helpful is that the recent search list can get long, and if currently we have to search each one individually. The ability to search for a group of perviously searched terms would speed things up and also ensure that we don't inadvertantly omit one. to Opus, I am using 1.4- I think I'm on day 3 or 4. If they have a trial of 2, I'd happily do it. I fixed the sleep thing. Thanks.
