Component output on 6600GT seems better than S-video

With the recent forceware drivers (67.3) and the latest nvdvd codec (1.00.67), I am now able to get a decent output from s-video with my 6600GT AGP card. I watch sports without having too much blurring. But now since I've spent more time comparing, I would say that the component out is much better.

With s-video out, I see weird "acid trip" fluctuations in peoples faces -- especially darker skinned people -- even when I have the resolution set to 720x480. Really annoys me during basketball games. I do not see this with the component out, so it must be a color separation issue.

There is one huge advantage with the s-video out. I am able set any resolution I want. The tv output is just as good at 1024x768 as 720x480. This is better for other apps (like video games and roxio media creator -- for arching shows) -- in fact roxio requires 1024x768.

The cable says that you are not supposed to plug in both the component and s-video at the same time, but I may try this and just change resolutions on the fly.

to use pure video you need any 6xxx series video card and do not worry about AA and AF or ffdshow until you get a better video card and TV
you will not see any difference when using svideo

the AA and AF will drag that 5200 down

Thanks, you've been very helpful.
Picture quality on TV is very good now after I followed your advice and made TV primary. I've assigned a hotkey to a macro and mapped that to my Remote, so I can switch easily between overlay (for TV watching) and VMR9 (for monitor watching).

According to this from article from anandtech.com, only the 6800GT and Ultra dont support WMV-HD, the 6600 and normal 6800 should support it.

Nope 6800 is just as flawed

there was a whole lot of misinfo put out for a long time. Originally the 6800s were all supposed to support this. Do some google searching, you will see other articles that say it will not. Don't remember the various links, but this is why I went with the 6600GT.

The 6800 PCI-Express version is supposed to work according to nVidia, however all other versions of the 6800 are broken (with regard to WMV accelleration).
