Smile On the case

Just got an E-mail from Frey, and they were finally able to reproduce this problem. It appears that we may have stumbled across a bug. I will try to keep in touch with them and post info as it comes my way.

I'm not insane! Happy Day!

Well, now I'm just confused.

I got an email too:

I was able to reproduce this and I made the developers aware of it. They have logged it and will work on finding a fix for it. It only happens when using DivX or MPEG4 recording. You can try recording to AVI directly, but you will lose the ability to time shift while recording. You can change this line in your Sage.properties file to read false. "mmc/enable_mpeg4_timeshifting=false"
At first glance this sounds encouraging, but I don't understand the part about AVI. The problem I have has nothing to do with AVI... (I don't think)

DivX problems

I have read a lot of posts about this issue. I have these problems off and on- I have not noticed any particular trend in it- but I am not happy with the file sizes on DivX anycase- so i just resort to mpeg mode and then convert them to DivX. No point in DivX files that run into GB scales- comparitive quality settings on Dr Divx give much smaller files-

Keep in mind that real time encoding can never do as good of a job as process encoding. I use DivX Home Theater Highest for 4 or 5 shows, and in some instances it looks better than the Best setting, and that's impressive for a 25% space savings. I don't use DivX for any show I think I might want to burn to DVD or VCD.
