First and foremost, Matt excellent job. I can't believe it was so easy to install and even easier to use.

I do however, as always, have a question. I am presuming I can not run this as a Service because the MVP interact with the desktop logged on user, if this is not true could you tell me an easy way of setting it up as a server.

Many thanks and again, nice job.

I have not been able to run a SageTV Client hosting an MVP Client as Windows Service (I tried w/ FireDaemon). The SageTV Client just crashes when run this way.

My workaround is a special Windows User Account with autologin (enabled via TweakUI) and a very short screen saver timeout. This account then just runs the MVP Clients from it's Startup group.

Works ok and survives reboots nicely.

I setup my SageTV Server instance and my 2 SageTVClient instances using the MediaMVP on my server to start automatically at High priority via batch files. This has made the MediaMVPs much more responsive.

Matt, is Frey using your plugin for their SageTV Media Center Extender? If they are, then I will just buy the MediaMVP now. But if they are using something different, then I want to wait until they release thier version of it.

Mayamaniac: I'm not sure I understand the point of that question. Regardless of what Frey uses on the MVP, Matt's plugin works now. And, either way, they would both use the same hardware (MVP).

Why the confusion Andy? It is something we are not suppose to ask? It's a simple question. Let me rephrase it by taking out the part about me buying a MediaMVP:

"Matt, you have been working very hard on this MVP Client Plugin, is Frey using your work in their upcoming product, the SageTV Media Center Extender?"

That's a legitimate question. The same goes for nielm's Web server plugin, which I use everyday. I want to kow if Frey is using it or something else in 3.0. Since Frey isn't releasing much detail info, then I have to ask, even if it's just a curiosity thing, still there's nothing confusing about the question.

Let's go back to to why I mentioned it would influence my decision to buy the MediaMVP. Well, when money is involved, as buyer you want to know as much info as you can before buying, especially when I plan to buy 2 or 3 units. It's as simple as that. Again, nothing confusing.

Where did I say you couldn't ask a question? But the way it was worded left me wondering what the point was.

To clarify why I was confused about the point of the question: Your first wording of the question seemed to indicate that you were going to wait to buy an MVP if Frey was using something other than Matt's plugin. I tried to note that a) Matt's plugin works with the MVP now & b) whatever Frey uses will work with the MVP later, so I wasn't sure how it could influence _when_ you bought an MVP, since it _sounded_ like you were planning to do so, but were waiting for the answer to the question before buying. Your first question sounded to me like: "I'm going to buy a car & I know the exact one I want. Is the new gas station down the street buying its gas from your refinery, or is it buying it from another refinery? Because if they are getting the gas from somewhere else, I'm going wait to buy my car until I know where the new local gas station will be getting its gas. I know the other gas station down the street gets its gas from you, but I might not want to fill up there."

I understood you might have a reason to wait that wasn't clear, so I asked why that would matter for a purchase decision now when both solutions are supposed to work. Knowing the answer to that can help someone answer more thoroughly. The question sounded like more than simple curiosity, or else I never would have bothered replying... which is probably what I should have done in the first place.

man, you just won't let it go.

Your example is just so off the wall with the car/gas metaphor, if anything, now you're confusing me ... Just let Matt answer my question, would ya? If he choose not to answer, then that's fine with me. It's important for me to know, doesn't matter my reasons. Is Frey using his MVP Client plugin, yes or no. That's all, it's that simple.

No. Frey showed my MVP Client at CES, but they are going to write their own for SageTV V3.

Are you doing anything special in the batch file or just starting the client?

Rick...

Weird... Seems like a lot of rework for them, at least on the surface.

Well, unless they INTENTIONALLY break YOUR MVP interface in v3.0, I see little reason to switch to theirs.

Especially since then I have to worry about the licensing (although I already own enough licenses, so not THAT big of a deal).

Of course if they bring transcoding plus a few other fixes to the table (like way to reset the stupid pixel display size when it screws up) maybe it will be worth it.

Until then I'll use Matt's. And am still glad I donated for all of his GREAT work.

Jason

Is anybody else using the MVP client with the latest 2.2.4 beta?
I am getting screen corruption of the OSD, both during playback and on the main menu.

Angry I know I'm missing something...

All (Matt)-

Having totally re-done my setup for Sage, I went to re-install my MVP client. For the life of me, I cannot get the MVP to function (as far as playing files / The GUI works fine.) unless I set SageTVClient up on the same PC as SageTV.

Here is a brief setup...

MVP=192.168.0.100
SageTV Server = 192.168.0.102
SageTV Client = 192.168.0.103

The main SageTV is running as a service and the PC running SageTV Client operates just fine (ie it can see the GUI and play videos...) After installing the MVP setup, I can get the main menu(s), but when playing videos, it is a no go.

At first, I thought it was maybe the drive mappings, but in checking the mvp_0. log, it sees it all just fine.

Having been at this for quite a while, I wanted to get someone else involved. As the title says, I am probably just missing something...

maybe I am missing something, but I thought you had to have sage/mvp client running on the same PC you have Sage TV running. On one server I run sage tv as service and two instances of Sage/MVP client. An addational PC would require an addational license. Although if just one MVP I think their is a way to get to work without running a client on the server, I believe there are instructions for this in the setup instructions that come in the MVP download.

Whatever computer you're running the MVP client on, you have to have all the server's drives mapped exactly like they are on the server, on the client system.

So if you have media drives lettered d, e, f, and g - those drives have to be mapped as d, e, f, and g on the system running the MVP client.

Make sense?

I am running SageTV on PC and SageTVClient (with another license) on eh other. I am attempting to run the MVP Client off of the SageTVClient PC (with -multi)

The two drives that I have the media stored on are mapped to drives J: and K: on both SageTV and SageTVClient. I can see the drives (as mapped) on both systems. However, the MVP apparantly cannot 'see' the drives. The SageTVClient PC can play the files, however the MVP Client (stubbed off of the SageTVClient...) is the issue.
