All depends, but technically no.
How, I don't understand. It's got a 10 bit color or whatever vs. the 250's 8bit.

Just saying it technically is better, but also then again I think the 150 is 10 bit and the 250 is only 8
This contradicts what you are saying.

At the very least, the 150 is the same as the 250, technically.

Nothing is contradicted. However, you are kinda comparing a Mustang Cobra with a Z28.

according to the reply I received from Hauppauge tech support today, the 150 MCE card will display CC under Windows 2005 MCE. Does this mean it records the CC data necessary for comskip commercial detection?

I don't know about the comskip stuff, but I can confirm the PVR150MCE does display CC under MCE2k5. The default config is to enable CC whenever the Mute button is pushed.

I believe they do CC a different way -- I don't know how to describe it very well, but I think they use the data in the VBI directly rather than relying on the driver to record the CC data when some registry setting is activated. Having said that... perhaps there is someone out there who can explain it better in plain language.

If someone could provide a list or screen grab of what is listed for a 150MCE under Sound, video and game controllers in Device Manager maybe I could take a guess. Actually, I'd like to see what it shows for a 500MCE. Until someone can provide that info, I won't be considering buying either one (got burned with that foolish Roslyn deal).
