My CD still crashes about 2-5 times per day. It appears to only crash on certain files. I've done a total reinstall of everything and tried it on two different machines with the same issue. I'm wondering if the recordings from the PVR-500's have a problem.

by manual, he actually means manually selecting comm detect from the show options menu.

I have been using the internal one ever since carlo went AWOL (good to have you back!) and I've been pretty happy with it. It has its shortcomings but its a good fall back for when the CD isn't doing its job.

Is there a log somewhere that tells what the Internal CD is actually doing and does it use the same config file for movie channels so it's not wasting it's time doing CD on the movie channels?

Not sure about a log. Personally I think what is happening is that CD is pausing when I watch a show and then not resuming when I am done.

As for the movie channels, in 18DR2 there is an ini file for CD where you can add a list of channels to ignore.

Cayars, got 18D up and running no problem. However, CD gives me the message, "This test version has expired; Please check for forums for a new build." Did I miss an updated that's not with 18D or in the first post? It also keeps saying, "All files have been processed. Waiting one minutes..." but then it repeats itself and keeps going. Is it actually processing files, or just going through the motions (given the "expired" status)? Thanks!

I don't mean to be rude, but this has come up a number of times in this thread all ready - the message means nothing, all is well. The all files processed message just means that it's scanned the drive and sees nothing that has not been com skipped.

What I found to help this was getting rid of the -low or whatever it was on my 2nd computer that's running the detection. That and running resume.bat every now and again seemed to help a lot. It definately has a problem resuming once it pauses though.

The problem is, it's not actually processing files, at least not automatically. I went out and left it running, but none of the shows recorded while I was gone have been processed.

I think Carlo mentioned that if you run the resume.bat manually that the STV will not know if it is paused or resumed since it has no way to keep track except by remembering what it did last. That's why I created a batch file that kills the entire CD process and restarts it every 6 hours.

Have you tried closing Sage and Com Detect and restarting com detect then then Sage? Sometimes com detect does seem to hang...

Yeah, I remember that being mentioned. I guess it doesn't matter in my case as I have enough CPU that the STV doesn't really need to know what's going on, I just need Com Detect to run when there's stuff to process.

I'm still running 17 because of comskipping issues in the 18 betas in both the internal and external comskip.

What files related to comskip can be safely deleted. I noticed that the associated files aren't removed when deleting a show and the maintenance delete incomplete comskip files doesn't see those to remove them.

If I'm reading your question right - all of them. Once you delete the show none of the other files that have the same show name are needed. Have you tried running delete orphan files? after deleting a show that's what these files are, not incomplete comskip files...

My system has hard crashed two days in a row now, since I've started using 18D and external commdetect which I've used internally until now. I'm not sure if this is 2.2.6 related or STV related. I'm switching back to internal comskip with 18D to see if that helps...if not, I'll try going back to 17. If that doesn't work, then I know it's 2.2.6 related, since I've had 17 running for weeks with no problems.

Anyone else experiencing hard crashes (total system freeze, no mouse movement, no key-command recognition, must reboot)?

I just recently started experiencing hard crashes every night. I stopped running the external comskip on my Sage server and they seem to have stopped. Compskip runs fine on my other PC, but it does generate a Windows error several times per day (but no hard crashes).

I think I've discovered a bug in 18D. Went to schedule recording, Search on Outsider and select it, Sage locks up. Kill Sage and try to restart and it won't restart. Reboot and everything is ok.

I did a bit more testing and went back to the original STV and tried to schedule the show which popped up with "Selection returned no records" or something similar. Not sure exactly why the show is still in the list of shows if there is no valid episode but 18D isn't dealing with the situation.

Anyone else able to confirm this (I guess this will only last until the show actually times out of the EPG).

Yeah, I too haven't had any problems/crashes since disabling external CD earlier this evening, and I've watched several hour-long shows consecutively. I'll keep plugging along, but it looks like CD was the culprit.

I'm pretty much a newbie to the whole HTPC and Sage thing (but not to computers)... and am hoping that someone can help. I installed Cayars v17, and everything works well with the exception of going to the 'live TV guide' and using the 'watch now' function. Clicky Clicky, and nothing. Have to go back to main menu and use 'view live tv'

It seems a few people have commented on this not working on v17, and also with external DVD on v18. Does anyone know of a fix for v17? I prefer to use the LiveTV guide, but when you click on watch now and it does nothing, it's painful.. If there is not a fix, I may go back to the original STV just for this functionality.. Recommendations? anyone?

Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.

-osarika

I'm having some BIZARRE stuff happen with the menus in v17. When I'm in the live TV guide and I have the menus set to show live video as the background underneath the menus, it draws weird triangles all over everything, and instead of highlighting the menu item I want, it highlights whatever is next to it. It also sometimes draws the text for the menus 2 or 3 times in various places around the screen. (Yeah, I know that's vague. I can make screencaps if anyone thinks it would help....)

Everything works fine when I have the video in a little window in the live tv guide. However, sadly, I am having the same trouble as osarika with "watch now" not working in Live TV. And that's sufficiently annoying that I don't want to use this skin. Which is the saddest thing of all, because I love the features this thing has so much that I might take Cayars home to meet my parents.

Now, this might just be something totally goofy I have my system set as, as I am having some trouble getting my video codecs to work properly (and it will only let me use VMR9, -- Overlay mode crashes Sage to the desktop!). I just wanted to know if anybody's seen this and knows how to fix it if it's not just me being retarded.

Any ideas?

thanks

-Matt
