I'm having trouble with recordings from a Hauppauge 250, with MPEG audio.

I did a system restore back to a few days ago, removed SageTV and all folders and registry entries. Then reinstalled SageTV 2.0. Now it's working again. The only thing I could see in the System Restore point that I went back to is that I removed the Sonic Decoders. No idea if that had anything to do with it but I've got it working again so I'll leave it alone.

Somehow, I don't think this is it, but here goes:

EnableInv32Detection = 1
MarkDeinterlacedFrames = 0

In any event, when I use VPP, I can get the properties page to open from the icon, with the NVidia video decoder, I can't. However I can open it using the Radlight Filter Manager, but when the the non-vpp decoder is running, it has no effect--the "apply" button is greyed out, and the boxes that show what's going on (bitrate, etc) are inactive.

I just upgraded a bunch of hardware--faster MB and CPU, and went from an ATI 9200 to a 9600xt 256. With those changes, it still takes nearly 45 seconds for Sage to start playing video with vpp selected...but, the Nvidia decoder now looks about as good (didn't before with the 9200), and it comes up right away...so I've switched to it.

Ok, I got the ICON working on my Client (using FX5200 Card)! And it works every time (using VPP), no problems or issues. Also, the delay is only ~4 seconds when loading a media file.

Question: Has anyone been able to get the NVidia Video Post Processor to work with a DVD Disc. Im can get it to work with a DVD from Hard Drive, but not a DVD Disc. Anyone have and solve this problem?

As for the Reg setting above, thanks for sharing.. I looked itno it and also the setting on my working client, and after analysis I think it might be located in the HKLM\Software\NVidia\nvTweak reg folder. However, I don't think that editing the Reg is the answer to get the icon to work.

Instead I think I may have a file or system corruption on my server. So I am going to look at restoring it, since it appears that the Client works very nicely with the Decoders (and I had noticed a few other problems like wierd channel changing- unprovoked, and some stuttering).

I still have to test the NVidia Video and Audio decoders on the Client (working system w/nVidia decoders).

You can specify the VPP as a post processor in the properties file if you're running 2.2.

Ok BIG NEWS

I have the icon on my server!!!! The problem was the drivers for my new 6600GT AGP Card. I recommend to anyone who has this card and does not get the NV Decoder icon to appear to INSTALL the "67.03 Forceware" drivers from here:

sorry to be off topic....
but how could I use dscaler with ffdshow?
dscaler was the last codec i installed so it should be default right?
I did the properties edit and have dscaler as an option but when I select ffdshow it uses nvdvd as it's source.

Hey it finally happened to me also. I upgraded from 2.1 ---> 2.2.3 beta. When I set the decoders to Nvidia, I got no icon. Set it back to default.. voi la, icon appears.

Not sure if this was happening w/ 2.1 or I just didn't notice it. So what's up w/ the icon flakery?

For post processing (ffdshow, VPP, etc) there's a new properties file entry, well actually two.

dvd_postprocessor_filter and video_postprocessor_filter (names may not be exactly correct). AFIAK syntax is just like the additional_video_filters line, just put the filter name on that line and Sage will add it to the graph as a postprocessor.

It's:
videoframe/dvd_video_postprocessing_filter=
and
videoframe/video_postprocessing_filter=

I think these are new in 2.2 though.

Tray icon

Has anyone come up w/ a solution to the lack of tray icon w/ 1.00.67 decoder. I am using latest graphics drivers 71.xxx, i think. I do not have a registry setting for displaytrayicon.

I think I saw this somewhere else, but if not able to get tray icon, I believe there is another way to change settings--FilterManager i think is one. Is this the best one to use? Thanks

Make sure nVidia is the default/preferred decoder on your system (there's a utility linked somewhere in this thread or on this forum I think), and then select "Default" as your decoder in Sage.

Fire up a mpeg file in zoom player. You can use zoom player to adjust the decoder properties.

I've noticed that with the nVidia decoders that other programs can have trouble communicating.. especially with Sage, like Girder with a Remote. anyone else see this? I don't have this problem with other decoders just NVIDIA. If I run girder in higher priority, it seems to work better, but every now and then I get a DirectX error. I think the priority setting can cause video playback issues. Hmm... what to do...

No remote problems..

Sometimes you have to unistall and reinstall the NV DVD Decoder program (it seems theses decoders are very touchy)....

First, some info about my system:

Pentium IV 2.8Ghz
Windows XP Pro w/Service Pack 2
Radeon 9700 Pro (with Catalyst 4.10)
Official NVidia decoders downloaded from the NVidia site. (version 1.00.58)
Anti-chroma and banding patch applied as found on AVS forum.
FFDShow version 20041012-sse
DSCaler version 4.111
NEC PX-42XM2/S plasma tv connected via DVI - progressive 1024x768 at 60hz.

Note that my settings work well on my Radeon card. I don't know how well they will work on other brands, or if there might be better settings for NVidia cards. Also, these settings are only good if you want to send a de-interlaced picture to a hdtv or similar display.

First, set up ffdshow so it will work with the NVidia decoders:
In the "raw filter" configuration:
On the "Codecs" page, set "Raw Video" to "All YUY" (or to YUY2 - this is the format the NVidia decoder outputs natively. Note I'm not using YV12 - this forces the NVidia decoder to add the VPP)
On the "Output" page, select "YV12"
On the "Deinterlacing" page, select "DScaler Plugin" (and enable the filter) - Then in the "DScaler" submenu, select the "DI_MoComp2.dll" filter from the DScaler install directory.
Under "tray, dialogs, and paths", put a checkmark in "Show tray icon". This allows you to bring up the settings for ffdshow while you're viewing a movie in sage.

Then, set up the NVidia decoder - we want to turn off deinterlacing in the decoder since FFDshow is handling it.
Select "Film" De-interlace control
Select "Display fields separately" in the Deinterlace Mode
I have "Hardware Acceleration" checked and "Prefer VMR9" selected, although these options don't appear to do anything with my settings.
If it's working right, you should see "Software mode YUY2" and "Undefined Renderer" in the "Decoder Format" part of the dialog. It's important that you don't see "Video Post Processor" here, because the VPP adds interlacing artifacts (to my eye, at least).

Finally, set Sage to use the correct filters:
In "Detailed Setup", under "Video" and "MPEG 2 Video decoder Filter", select "ffdshow MPEG-4 video decoder".
Select "VMR9" under "Video Renderer" in the same menu"
You'll need to select an approriate audio filter, since the NVidia one doesn't work with Sage.
On my system, I have found it to be useful to disable "3D Acceleration" in the "Advanced" menu of Sage. YMMV.

If everything is working, you should see both the NVidia icon and the ffdshow icon in the tray when you are watching a program with Sage. You can check the settings to make sure they are right here. You can even dynamically tweak some of the filters in ffdshow. I've found that adding more than a few additional filters causes some jerkiness in the picture on my system, though.

Comments?

I would uninstall fddshow to take it out of the equation. Work on getting just the nVidia decoder working first. After that add ffdshow back with no settings and make sure Sage still works. Tweak one setting at a time until all is right.
