Thats good to hear 256 colors is adequate. I for one don't really even care that it looks spectacular as long as I could see the OSD i would be happy to sacrifice some quality of the images.

I'm just curious if different skins would work with this plugin or if it would only work with the default skin.

I would say that it will be independent of skin selection.

I'm excited now. I just recieved my xcard today. Everyone is right this card does output a nice picture. Much better than the tvout on my video card and the output fits my screen perfectly. So far I am pleased.

Just out of interest how does the output on a SDTV compare to that of the PVR 350?

Thanks

The quality is slightly better, because it has the ability to output via Component and progressive etc. but with S-video output, it is the exact same.

Sub,

Just checking to see if you are making any progress on the xCard plugin. I am another who is waiting in the wings to donate. I hope that the effort is going well.

I believe the canvas is still blank. I'm not holding my breath either!

BUMP!

XCard OSD for Christmas would be nice! I've been good and that is what I asked Santa for.

XCard OSD for xmas would be awesome indeed By the way, looking at Tvedia, the OSD is not limited to 8bits, Tvedia is able to display a 32bits interface (alpha chanel) which looks pretty nice.

I'm not sure what Tvedia has done get around it, but the OSD is limited to 256 colors.

Yep. I also read about TVedia's ability to extend beyond the 256 color limitation. As I recall, something that they were even trying to aquire a patent for.

I'll settle for 256 color; the Sage XCard OSD implementation is LONG OVERDUE. Everyone has agreed to pay for such a plugin so should have the necessary economic incentive that revenue brings. Yet still nothing; heavy sigh.

The resulting image quality isn't really the biggest problem with the 256 color limitation, though. A really good quantizer makes a pretty decent rendition of the user interface in 256 colors. The problem is that it takes too long for really good quantization to do it in real time. It can be done pretty reasonably with some trade-offs between quality and speed.

I'll put some $$ up. In fact, I have a paypal verified account we could use (I'd share a spreadsheet or something for honesty).

I have posted an Xcard plugin. It is still in early development but is functional for viewing mpeg recordings. Check it out here.
