Yep channels and TVE is the way to go ... I setup some family members that did not have cable .. with Channels DVR TVE Locast and Philo cost $28 dollars a month... you cannot beat that.

To me DRM recording is no longer a problem as most shows are available from cable company on Demand on my Roku... if i want to save a movie from my cable provider I use playon... So I am grateful to the Channels Developer for supporting and developing Channels DVR.... and have no problem paying a yearly fee to them.

I moved the Channels DVR server from one Windows PC to another Windows PC on the same network today. Because of the way they set up to software and storage directories, it was very simple and only took a few minutes. They did a nice job with the server migration.

Is there any way to tell which channels are supported by TVE with a Cable sub, ie Xfinity Spectrum, etc?

This is a rough capture of what I get on my XFINITY it may vary according to your xfinity plan. You can try the channels Trial and see for yourself. DEpending on your Internet some users have recorded up to 10 different streams at 1 time without a tuner just TVE.

The user base was hoping they would add a clock to the EPG so that a user could figure out how to determine what time it was when viewing the guide, but apparently watching TV in the front seat of a Tesla took priority.

How cool is that!

Combined with Tesla's self-driving technology, it sound like a true receipe for disaster.

Anybody with the slightest bit of technical knowledge would be a fool to get into a self driving Tesla. The driver aids are really good, but assume the thing can drive itself at your own peril.

I figured I better mention some of the positive things with this software instead of just the negative, so I posted this over in the Channels DVR forum today:
-------------------------------------------------
Had an extra great experience with Channels DVR today. I dropped some 4K DJI drone video into my imports directory, re-scanned for new files, and the Fire TV 4K stick (on the local network wi-fi) just simply played it on a 4K TV in all it's full resolution glory. No transcoding, no fuss, no judder, no pausing, just played it perfectly.

When I tried the same thing on another Fire TV stick (non-4K) the playing failed, so I flipped on the 1080 transcoding for local network and it played just fine.
-----------------------------------------------
The ability to import media that wasn't recorded by the software really isn't a fully working/supported feature yet, but the basics of it is functional.

I was wondering if Channels DVR supported the video import feature. That is the one thing about SageTV that I would totally miss.

Shield EXP 8.0.2 + Channels DVR

Channels DVR app can now store recorded content on NAS.

Great for underpower NAS owners that also have a Shield.

I went into Channels DVR expecting it to be OK, but not great. I have to say that I was wrong. I am really quite pleased with it. It has been rock solid. Hasn't missed anything.

And the TVE recording has been flawless. Sure I wish it had full 5.1, but it works where PlayOn just hasn't.

And now that there is a Kodi add-on (still Beta, but fairly solid), I think I am about to shutdown my Sage box for the first time in 15 years.

Still mind boggling that I have been using Sage that long.

I thought the same as you, Sam, but after actually using it for a while now, I'm finding a number of things that I really miss. I haven't been able to really get this deep yet, but it seems like CDVR doesn't actually have a personal database of shows that have been watched. If it does, I haven't really figured it out yet.

When we set up a season pass, is it possible to have it record everything except the shows that are already marked as watched?

Honestly, I hadn't really paid attention to that. It hasn't recorded anything that I've already watched and deleted, that I've noticed anyway. I'll have to pay attention.

It keeps track of what you have watched and deleted ... it will not re-record deleted unless you go into advance pass and tell it to record deleted. It will not record episodes already recorded.

I am still partial to Tablo (well. after SageTV) but that may be mainly because there is no Channels DVR ROKU App and the Tablo App in Shield is … eh, clumsy. Nevertheless, the only thing that I dislike about CDVR is the same thing in STV -- the lack of real-time icons during Play back/forward. FWIW, EMBY is also worth a look.
