PS: i will try to remember to add this to the notes on the first post.
I've continued to investigate the HDHR Setup issue. Here are 2 workarounds; use either one:

1. As Ken said, install the 32-bit Sage server software, even though there is no reason to actually run it. Once this is done, HDHR Setup will permit setting the Primary Application to SageTv.

2. If 32-bit Sage server s/w isn't installed, instead of setting the Primary Application to SageTV, set it to "Other: ATSC/QAM". I've confirmed that both choices result in identical Silicon Dust registry data for the HDHR tuners. Testing was done using the original HDHR-US (white), HDHR-3US and HDHR Prime (CableCard) tuners. Haven't encountered any functional issues using the Other choice.

Other isn't an option in the current hdhomerun software

Exactly which version # is that? Which Application choices are presented?

My tests found 2 other settings that also resulted in the correct HDHR registry settings: BeyondTV and XBMC Media Center. Give those a try.

I suspect that your "Default" might be the same as my "Other:ATSC/QAM", but would like to confirm that. Can you temporarily select and apply Default, and then use regedit to inspect this key:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Silicondust\HDHomeRun\Tuners\<tuner_id>

Please post a screen grab of the registry contents.

without having to do that I can tell you its isn't the same since it stopped working when there is no sagetv option and it sets itself to default

For my internal debug notes, I'd still like to know what the registry values are for Default.

My investigation found that the following Application selections all result in the same HDHR registry values: SageTv, Other, BeyondTV, J River Media Center, Media Portal & XBMC Media Center.

Interesting...

I'd like to duplicate your failure. Exactly what in Sage stopped working when Default is the chosen Application? Channel scan? Channel Preview?

Does Sage work OK when the Application is set to BeyondTV ?

channels tune properly as indicated by hdhomerun config, sagetv shows a signal but displays no signal. Channel scan finds no channels under this condition

What was the Application setting: Default? BeyondTV?

Now that my test machine is back up and running (video card died), I tried that snippet and could not crash my machine. I watched it via standalone mode and by starting the service and then the client on the same machine.

This is on Windows 7. AVI playback goes through a MS AVI splitter first. I wonder if there’s something up with the win 10 64-bit one.

Thanks for trying, yes - I am running Windows 10 Pro on a couple of machines and Windows 10 Home on another machine. The Windows 10 Home was a fresh instance (I brought up a VM) that I loaded Sage on.

Is there any diagnostics I can try, or maybe a patched version that does some more logging in that area? I would be happy to help.

I did get around most of the issue by converting my AVIs to MKV containers (coping the video and audio - not re-coding). They play fine as MKVs.

As an FYI - I am also getting a similar abort when trying to play any music files (MP3's). I suspect this is a very rarely used function, it has been a couple of years since I have used it. I didn't grab the log, but can if it would be useful and others are experiencing similar issues.

Thanks for the offer of help. I'm still trying to figure out what all takes place when a video is played so I know where best to put logging code. Some may be in the sage.jar, others inside DLL's. I'll let you know if I have something to try.

I've confirmed there's an issue with DVD menus on the 64-bit version. I've patched the DShowPlayer.dll and it seems to work for me now and it's attached to this post. Shut down SageTV, rename the existing one, then put this one in its place. When it's shown to be working, I'll get the code to the installer builder and submit a pull request.

EDIT: I've updated this DLL again to fix the music playback crash also. The DVD menu and music fix are both here. I'll submit a pull request for the music fix soon.

I'd like to know if choosing BeyondTv (or any choice other than SageTv) in HDHR Setup provides a working solution for HDHR tuners. Can you temporarily give it a try? Tests on 3 of my systems have shown that selecting Other:ATSC/QAM, BeyondTv, J River Media Center, Media Portal or XBMC Media Center have all worked, but your previous report makes me want to do more investigation.

The goal is to provide some guidance to other users in the next release of the 64-bit installer.

Just out of curiosity, any thoughts from those fine folks working on the 64 bit version as to when they think the code might be ready for its first official non-beta release?

Tnx!

The next build we do will not be beta...just need to find the time but hopefully soon... the version posted here is plenty stable to be considered a release but the next release will include a few minor updates.

Since I no longer have a test system, can I have both the 32 bit and 64 bit installed on the same system?
