What do I need to do to have OpenDCT see the old HDHR?

Have you checked the opendct.properties file to see if the both of your HDHR's are listed as discovered devices in it?

If they are both in there, then you might need to stop SageTV and update sage.properties to reflect:

Code:
network_encoder_discovery=true

I see that if I stop watching live TV and return to the menus, the HDHR is not released. I'm looking at one of my Prime channels still sending even though I stopped watching 15 minutes ago.

Is there a timeout value that can be shortened, or did I miss a setting?

ALSO, as I'm testing things out I only have 1 HDHR Prime tuner and 1 original HDHR tuner set up for use by Sage. I configured both in OpenDCT, and gave the original HDHR tuner a higher priority.

I selected a channel to watch in the guide that is a clear QAM channel, and while it's displaying fine, both tuners were set to that channel and both are sending according to the HDHomeRun Config GUI program. Surely this isn't normal behavior to run two tuners simultaneously.

Okay, when I stopped playback, the original HDHR stopped properly but the Prime tuner is still programmed and sending, just like I described above regarding the timeout value. Something must be wrong with that tuner's setup.

The HDHomeRun Prime might be tuned, but it shouldn't be locked or prevent future use. The tuning might be from looking up the channel for the older device. I double-checked the code that checks for that and it doesn't issue a stop, but there's a reason for that. Since it doesn't lock the device while it does the lookup, it's possible something else might want to tune and OpenDCT would end up hosing that devices tuning attempt. The HDHomeRun will drop the tuning attempt after some time because it's not actually streaming.

Thanks for checking on this. I was wondering if maybe OpenDCT was using the Prime tuner in this way, rather than a lookup table. I also thought the HDHR would time out sooner and drop the connection, but maybe I'm remembering wrong.

The HDHomeRun doesn't provide a better way to find out the mapping of the virtual channels. As they are discovered, they are cached, but initially they need to be looked up by tuning. The InfiniTV devices actually have an accessible table and don't need this approach.

Everything looks fine. Can you restart the SageTV service, then post the opendct.log and sagetv log files? The only other possibility is the devices aren't being discovered, so we need to determine which side is failing us.

My provider, Frontier Fios, does move channels around sometimes. Is there a way to flush or reset the cache without stopping/restarting the service? Although that can be done in a script so I suppose that would work as I have a nightly script that checks for channel changes.

Currently no. The problem is if all of the CableCARD tuners are in use and the needed channel hasn't been tuned recently by a tuner with a CableCARD, then we can't get the mapping. I can add an option to always look the mapping up, but the results may not be ideal for Prime users.

The SageTV log indicates that you should be seeing them. Just as a note, OpenDCT only prepends DCT on CableCARD tuners.

Did you by chance not restart the service? because currently Sage will only look for network encoders on startup.

Yes, that was the issue.

Now if I could only get my cable company to update the lineup. They moved all the physical channel mappings but didn't update the lineup

Have you tried power cycling the prime (or tuning adapter if you use one)? Might force it to get new info.

Tried that. I called it in to the cable company tech support and they confirmed the problem was on their end. They told me they requested the changes from Comcast (who they buy the signal from) and it will take 2-3 weeks to correct. One of the downsides of having a small cable company.

A little OT but I'm interested in hearing opinions: I am using the composite video outputs (connected to a very old Hauppauge card) of ancient Motorola box to tune some of the channels. They have a Motorola 6200 which is HD compatible and has component and composite outputs in addition to HDMI. Have they closed the "analog hole" or will the composite video outputs produce video?

I would expect those outputs to work.

LIVE TV and Tuning not working - Preview does though

So i am pulling my hair out now... trying to figure this out and hoping someone has suggestions. I installed OpenDCT to provide tuners for SageTV from my HDHomeRun Cable Card box. I am too the point were i see the tuners in Sage, and can set them up, I can preview channels in the sources setup screen, BUT when try to watch LiveTV or schedule something, SageTV cannot tune it. It is just a blank screen.

Any thoughts on what might be happening?

So it seems that SageTv is having issues with one of my drives and it had nothing to do with OpenDCT... troubleshooting now. All favorites disappeared and everything is now ARCHIVED. ugh

Thank goodness for backups... did a restore, dropped the REC1 drive as it seemed to be finicky, and all is well. OpenDCT works without flaw so far.

Now to swap out that REC1 drive (dtill have REC2, REC3, and REC4...lol)
