Good to know. It's tricky to use an API that keeps changing as much as FFmpeg is as of late. Some have been vocal that we should just use the executable instead of the library. The trade off would be speed when tuning into a new channel, but there's no reason we could just add it as it's own consumer so users and choose for themselves.

How do I tell what version of opendct I have installed?

Think I'm out of date, but downloaded current, stopped service and ran MSI and it only offered to uninstall, not upgrade?

Thanks

On Windows, you can see the version under Programs and Features. If you were only offered to uninstall, it's likely you have that version installed.

In an effort to save some processing time, is there a way to have OpenDCT remux the stream in real time?

I use MCEBuddy, and have to remux everything coming out of my InfinTV4 before process can begin on the file. I'm thinking if OpenDCT can perform this in real time then I can skip this step in post.

The FFmpeg consumer remuxes the stream and it's the default.

Ok, so I guess it's unable to correct the issues then. MCEBuddy remux it is.

It looks like it's failing on a channel that's streaming using RTP to your server. My first guess would be the firewall might be blocking it. The port in this case that it's trying to use is 8326. The port range that RTP could use is 8300 - 8500. You can change this to another range by changing the values of rtsp.port_high= and rtsp.port_low= if it's bumping into another service you have on your server.

Thanks it appears to be the defender firewall ... had lots of updates to it lately. For now I just turned off the Private firewall.... and it is working again.

With Comcast changing the way I can add ports to my router and firewall updates .. I have had a tough week ,,,

No problem. UDP traffic coming inbound depends on the firewall allowing it. Many firewalls by default allow outbound connections on any port, but block most inbound traffic. That would be why the HTTP (TCP outbound) channels worked and the RTP (UDP inbound) ones did not. You probably already know this, but I just wanted to spell it out if anyone is curious why it was just some channels.

I feel for you there. There are some things you should be able to just do and leave alone.

I'm trying to set this up to transcode. I modified the ultrafast1080p profile and added the line for 720p:

Code:
v.e.w1280.h720.h264.progressive_filter=format=pix_fmts=yuv420p, fps=fps=opendct_fps:round=near
It is transcoding 1080i fine but seems to be ignoring 720p and just passes through the MPEG2 without transcoding it first.

What am I doing wrong?

I'll answer because I recently tested this and noticed the same thing - did you see this line in the transcode profile?

# If this is true, transcoding will only happen if the content is interlaced.
v.conf.t.deinterlace_only=true

Oh, thank you so much. I hadn't seen that line. Honestly I'd been paying attention to only the filter graph lines. Makes so much sense now. I also had to adjust the line for the default deinterlace filter because it was set to bob at double the real frame rate. IMHO, bobbing looks horrible.

I'll agree that there are much better deinterlacing methods and I did test with many of them. I just picked the fastest one from my testing. I'm not sure I noticed horrible quality, but we're all different.

Yeah, to each their own. Bobbing produces a kind of flicker that I just find annoying to watch.

Before I started converting the DVD video with HandBrake I noticed that the media extenders use a bob filter for some supposedly progressive MPEG 2 video. The inconsistencies in DVD video is what pushed me to start converting them rather than using the raw video.

Every week or so I start getting errors recording shows, and it appears that OpenDCT is running but for some reason all of its network traffic fails. The log is full of messages that it can't talk to the tuners or send commands. However if I restart OpenDCT then it starts working fine again. Is it normal to have to restart about every week? This is on a Windows 7 system that I normally don't reboot that often.

That could be a problem with OpenDCT. If you can post some log files from OpenDCT when it happens, we might be able to figure out why it's happening and maybe even fix it.

OpenDCT runs for weeks/months without a restart for me.

Do you have any scheduled processes that run only once a week? Like a backup or optimization program?

Attached is a log file from last night. Recordings starting at 7:00PM (19:00 in the log) failed. I do see some Java errors including OutOfMemoryError that may be related, but I have 8GB RAM in the system and there is free memory.

There are tasks scheduled but most run daily. I don't see any that coincide with the error.
