just as a quick follow up - swapping in ffmpeg from the v7 linux distro is a reasonable hack that seems to work for now.

There was an update to the code last week. I compiled it on Ubuntu 16.04 with gcc 5.4 and it seems to work fine. The one that is distributed with the unRAID docker image shows as being compiled with gcc 4.8. Not sure if that or the change in code made the difference?

Just trying to wrap head around this. The distributed sagetv binary in BinTray (used by docker) does use the GCC compiler from Ubuntu 14.04 (Trusty). The reason for this was that sagetv was having issues when compiling with a version of Ubuntu that was newer. (this is the docker image I use for building sagetv https://github.com/stuckless/sagetv-...ild/Dockerfile)

Are you saying that 16.04 will build and compile sagetv just fine as well? or do you have to make changes to the files to support 16.04?

For it to work successfully you have to install the gcc-4.7 package and set the environment variable CC=gcc-4.7. This was in a different thread some time ago.

So, in theory, I could use the same 14.04 image that I have, but install gcc-4.7 and set the CC var to 4.7 and rebuild... and this fixes the ffmpeg transcoding issue? (I don't use video conversions, myself, so I'm just trying to understand what I need to do in order to resolve this in a future build... and if it's just changing the compiler, that might be an easy fix)

I'm unsure about that. When I run the ffmpeg I've compiled it says it was compiled with gcc 5.4. So it doesn't appear that the ffmpeg makefile is aware of the CC variable. The reason for the fix was that mplayer was failing its configure step because of the newer unrecognized gcc version that comes standard with Ubuntu 15.10 and up.

BTW, here is the original post:
