Would not care what it looked like if it was user replaceable like the backgrounds etc. It is only up for a second but would be nice if you could customize it if it annoyed you.

well, ideally any theme changes would propagate into the default STV as well.

I was playing around with some graphics while browsing this forum and decided to throw out another idea. I REALLY like ptzink's contributions, but wanted to tweak things a bit. I know, not completely flat -- I like it that way. Anyway, curious to learn what others think.

How about "SageMedia" or "SageOpenMedia"... just to emphasize that it's a lot more than just TV. (And even more so in the future, I hope).

I think it was mentioned above, but the thing that sets sage apart from the many other, in many ways better, media library/players, IS it's TV centric focus.

Yeah, for better or worse, Sage is pretty far behind the rest of the competition in terms of media, it's TV where SageTV shines.
Maybe in a couple years, SageTV 10 will have made enough strides in "media" management and recording TV will have diminished in importance enough to warrant a name change, but not today. |

SageTV Media Center that need to cover Standalone, Server and Service Mode x86/x64 Windows, Linux/Unix OS even support hardware NAS which start be come a very popular item. SageTV Client that need to cover x86/x64 Windows, Linux/Unix OS PC/Laptop. Maybe rename Placeshifter to SageTV Mobile Client that also cover Android, iOS and Chrome OS. As for SageTV Media Extender this where we have lot of option with Steam Media Player Platform Settop box or MiniPC that are base around ARM or x86/x64 but I'm sure most want low cost Android TV, Apple TV and even Roku option but there downside is they only work best with H264 media unlike Windows/Linux box and they have there downlaod as well. |

I would keep it SageTV but I agree with the other posters about dropping the version number from the logo or splash screen.
There no need to have version number in there, we only see the splash screen for like what ... 20-30 seconds? No point to go fancy there for something that is only visable for 20-30 seconds. And in near future with faster hardware like SSD drives etc dropping in prices, I expect to see splash screen for less 5 seconds. Anyone can check version number any time by going to the system information screen. If a version number on splash screen is a must have then code in an API od hook overlay on the splash screen that will pull out the version number from SageTV core so each time it updated it will show the current version number without having to recreate the splash screen each time. Bill

I really like ptzink's logo...it keeps a lot of the old logo while modernizing it

Just change the version number. Like someone alluded to earlier, if it isn't broken, don't fix it. Especially don't cruft up something that's already pretty damned good.

FYI... I met with my friend that teaches at the college. He has 2 separate classes (different fields of study with overlap), and he's basically going to give his students a semester long project of re-designing SageTV.
I'll probably go in and give a demonstration of what SageTV does today, and then the students basically set up a branding guide, etc. Depending on what I see, I might, post some of the ideas here. They are tasked with redesigning everything from the icon, logo, splash screen, and overall UI. (And I know that scare the hell out of many people ) (The students might even join the forums and ask questions, etc) I'm interested to what they produce. I get invited from time to time to watch them present various things, from redesigning a car interface, like Telsa, to designing a UI for an interactive fridge... It's always cool to see what new and young minds come up with. Keep in mind, "re-designing" at this point is basically mocking up various screens to show an overall UI concept as opposed to actually implementing anything.

I think it's great to get some non-techy hands on the overall design concepts. Sort of a win-win anyway, as they get the experience of observing and making recommendations on a real live product, while we get some free advice/guidance.

That was my feeling as well. I hope some of them actually do join the community, if for other reason, then to experience what the real world is like outside of a classroom, when it comes to evolving a product and/or a design.

Regardless of whether they come up with anything that gets used, that's a really cool thing, stuckless. Thanks for setting that up! It will be interesting to see what they come up with (and interesting to see how much they are, consciously or subconsciously, affected by the look of all things Apple).
(I'm also wondering if your professor friend is simultaneously saying "thanks for providing me with a project idea for this semester so I didn't have to come up with one myself!" )
