1. If you've read any of this thread, you know that it's far from the only thing people want to do.
2. Not everyone shares the same priorities, no need for such a snobbish take on something which many here are excited about.

Sigma makes new chips all the time. They have 4K now. I'm not opposed to using Raspberrys or other devices too, but the video output is subpar. To me, anything based on XBMC is merely adequate. I'm interested in the best.

And if I may ask, which PVR backend works better than Sage?

Is it difficult to integrate sagetv with languages other than java? I work with developers in a similar space, and Java is a 4 letter word. Python and go are usually preferred.

Plus, the Raspberry Pi is only capable of playing up to H.264 Level 4.0, which excludes Blu-ray video that goes up to Level 4.1.

I personally prefer C style languages such as Java. Python's whitespace delimitedness annoys me. What's wrong with brackets for enclosing conditional statements? It just doesn't have the logical flow that I'm used to with other languages.

Since you asked just about PVR backend no bells and whistles added. Name something that Sagetv Does that NEXTPVR backend cannot? .. this is just for comparison as SageTV is a fine product. Let's keep it Civil maybe there is something that SageTV Backend offers that I am missing?

NEXTPVR
1. Native Cable Card Support
2. t's a NextPVR feature called 'multi record' which allows digital tuners to record multiple shows which are all on a single source mux/frequency.
3. PIP
4. Not Limited by Java.
5. NextPVR enables you to view it's user interface out to devices like Samsung TV and Blu-Ray players, and LG TVs

SageTV backend.
1. Integrated EPG
2. Runs in Multiple OS's

There's a big difference between "subpar" and "best". HDMI video output and playback on a Pi (Model B) is comparable to that of the HD-300. It's a bit unfair to characterize the HD-300, -200, or -100 as "subpar" devices.

Unless you consider that "subpar" actually means "good" ...

I'm referring to both the HDMI and USB at this time I can't get my HDMI to put out anything but Stereo Audio. When I try setting it to bitstream in FFDSHOW I get no audio. My receiver works just fine streaming the same audio via Optical audio out on my HD300

Skirge01 you do under stand by get SageTV Open Source

1: Move to 64bit software
2: Fix some of current small mirror software bugs in both Server, Client and Placeshifter.
3: Update capture device list so that see them right and add new capture device if need be, After all there are min new ATSC/QAM/CableCARD Tuner, Network Device (ATSC/QAM/CableCARD), Analog HD Encoder, DVB and so on.
4: Integrated Useful Features that benefit every one like SageDCT, Network IR blaster (Directv), Schedules Direct EPG, Utility (Auto Backup, Web Interface, SageTV Auto Restarter) and the list goes on, just no add themes leave that out.
5: Update current UI by make it Modern I do like the way google fiber UI layout out is done simplified view and it look more update.
6: I know a lot people are not a fan of it current look of the Music, Movies Picture but we do need keep it as a simplified view I don't mind background cover art and banners thing like that as like how it done in media bowser and I even like the way it lay out just a though.
7: Client Support Phones and Tablet device in both Android and iOS
8: PiP support
9: A bit late maybe take a vote FM Radio support
10: ATSC/DVB multiplex recording (This allow record all sub channel under the main channel frequency) This also under Cable streams to on one frequency but the down you end with boat load channel.
11: Change the codec to maybe LAV filters and XY-VSfilter
12: A replacement Media Extender

I've read the entire thread. If you look at my earlier replies, you'll see that while I'm hopeful, I'm simply not blind to what's really needed for this to succeed. I was also over in another thread, trying to get Slugger to come back.

Hmm funny what do mean by Integrated EPG as the last time I check it was or was to ref to 3rdparty apps like Kodi or MediaBrowser3?.
You mean need updating to run on more OS's as it all ready runs on Multiple OS's on Linux, Mac and Windows.

I actually feel the same way, I'm just under the impression that most projects in this space aren't happening in java, so i think that if theres complexity in integrating with other platforms - open source contributions will be limited.

Smile Happy Days

Been checking the forum almost daily and was elated about the news.
+1 for extender support on a device that is easy to get hands on.
WAF very high since I switched to HD300s.

SageTV backend.

I see sorry I guest didn't I get what you ref to as SageTV it self is not backend app as a backend app ref to using with frontend apps like Kodi or MediaBrowser3.
Now SageTV Service Mode on other hand is a backend app.

If you mean eliminating Java altogether, probably very difficult. From what I've seen it was designed to use Java and is totally dependent on it.

Of course, once it's all open source anybody can look at the logic and rewrite it in any language they want.

So many good ideas, so little time .... I can see lots of code forks in our future.

I didn't spurn your opinion at all, I thought your post was spurning the opinions of those interested in reviving the extenders. It effectively says "all of you people talking here about reviving the extender are wasting your time on something worthless". If those are your feelings, you are entitled to them, but there's no need to post them in the midst of some pro-extender discussion within a massive thread that talks about a wide variety of future possibilities for Sage.

No harsh feelings, I love this place and all of the contributors, to whom I owe a great, great deal of gratitude and whom have provided me with great WAF. And it's very clear (as I pointed out in my post) that there are PLENTY of other things people have planned besides a possible revival of extenders, so no worries.
