ian and pvr_lurker over at the SHS forum helped me fix my problem. This is pvr_lurker's suggested fix:

1. Find this key in your registry:

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\HCW88VID\Parameters

2. If you don't have a Parameters key, then add one (In my case I had to add it).

3. Under Parameters add the DWORD value AGC_Sync_Slicer.

4. Enter a hex value of 601c. This value worked for me. The first two digits can range from 50-72. So you could conceivably have 501c or 721c. Again, 601c worked for me.

5. Reboot and see if your problem goes away.

note: i'm using the latest roslyn drivers, version 2.99.xxxx.

Great news and here is what Frey Support said to me:

Yes we are pushing very hard on the matter. They are aware of what is going on. We really want this to get resolved ASAP. I just wish I could give an exact time of when a driver will be released.

Again we apologize for the inconvenience this is causing you.

WOAH!!!!
ROSYLN USERS YOU NEED TO DO THIS PROCEDURE WITH THE LATEST DRIVERSHands down.. the Rosyln card has THE BEST video quality. I suppose the next driver will have this registry setting in it when it is released. Now lets hear what Multiple Roslyn card users have to say about this new fix.

Was "601c" a recommended value, or just a rough guess at what might be close?

The auto-brightness problem was not bugging me as much having a washed out picture I was getting (compared to my PVR-250's).

I had to add that registry parameter and value (was not there). Now at least the picture is much closer to that of my PVR-250's.

I'm not sure if I should alter that value a bit, or just touch things up under the color corretion settings now, but at least it's much more within a reasonable area to work with.

I am REALLY glad someone found a work around for this flaw, and agree that EVERY Roslyn user should be made aware of this.

501c is much nicer for me than when I initially tried with 601c!

501c - BEAUTIFUL
601c - NICE
721 - gets fuzzier

Seems like the higher you go, the quality starts to degrade

cmaffia, you're kidding?! The Roslyn works for you now? Where's your 250 MCE? I don't see it in your config now. Are you running with one tuner?

I'm going to try mine side by side with my 250 in the same machine this weekend. I was just about to ship it back but, if this works, then maybe I'll be keeping it (hey, more money for Frey == good, right?).

Nope not kidding. Still got 250 MCE and I am almost done building another Sage box for the living room with it. Both cards are damn fine cards

So you haven't tried the 250 MCE and Roslyn in a single Sage TV server?

Either way, with sleonard's post on multiple USB-UIRT zones, I'm going to give it a shot sometime soon. I may be unplugging my TiVo once and for all this weekend!

I only tried my Roslyn and PVR-250 MCE with the old drivers stated in this original post... and it did not work for me.
Haven't tried yet with the new drivers.

I feel REALLY bad for Tivo. Such pioneers.. such a great company.. but this PC PVR solution is going to be yet ANOTHER stake in their heart. Besides the fact that the majority of their existence is due to their partnership with DirectTV (a partnership which was recently reported as not looking very long term) and that they never broke the skin of the cable industry, doesn't bode well for Tivo. This is DirectTV's future partner in favor of Tivo... although DirecTV swears on their mother they will still keep Tivo as an option... http://www.nds.com/ Now you tell me which you would pick if you had the choice??

Quite honestly, in the "long run", I wouldn't choose either one, but for now I'll go with SageTV.

I believe what is going on the front side (what we see of these companies) may very well be completely different from what is going on in the background (which may actually work out very well for both companies).

I don't want to paint too bleak of an outlook for the future of things here (and probably shouldn't), so if you're interested in my own thoughts and opinions just let me know and I'll PM you and we can continue discussing more on the side.

For those of you experiencing the auto-brightness issue, we are currently working with Hauppauge on a fix for the problem. In the meantime, please try the following registry setting to see if it corrects the problem:

Create this registry key:
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\hcw88vid\Parameters
And then create this value under that key:
Dword:"AGC_Sync_Slicer" = 0x601C

Dual Roslyns

Nothing on this thread since July - has the driver issue been solved for a dual Roslyn configuration yet?

Thanks!

I just found this thread and all I can say is WOW. I've had this card for a year and I didn't know it could look so good. I'm using what I think is the latest driver: driver 2.99.22145.0 dated 5/24/2004. I have a single card configuration.

No it doesn't work. Not with the latest drivers from SHS either.
