That should work as you will be accessing the Internet via your wireless carrier and not going through your LAN at all.

update - that worked like a charm. used my cell phone's mobile hotspot feature (T-Mobile), linked the wireless usb on the back of the HD200 and signed in via NO-IP. Cool - didn't realize you could take these in the suitcase and have access all over the world. Super

The new Raspberry Pi 3 looks like an even better candidate as an extender replacement. Processor has been upgraded to 64-bit at 1.2Ghz. It also has a faster GPU with added H.265 support. Might be time for someone to start working on a Raspberry Pi client.

And the built in Bluetooth would help as you could use it to connect to a remote control.

I'm not sure I see a lot value in spending time on a linux placeshifter for PI when the linux placeshifter for desktop linux, doesn't even work that well. (it works, just not great).

And when you consider that you'll still need to build a case, and potentially other parts, not sure Pi would be a decent replacement for HD300.

It would be an interesting project to say you did it... but I'm not convinced that running placeshifter on Pi will be better than running it on a desktop linux.

To each their own. It's at least a viable option and supports playback of MPEG2, H.264, VC-1, and now H.265 even if some of those require additional licenses.

It may not be a pre-built system but as long as software is available it is an appealing option for the DIYers among us.

Agreed, I think that for someone that just wants to say they did it for the sake of doing it... it would be a fun project. Just not sure if people realize how much of an effort this is. It's one things to say it supports hardware acceleration.. but quite another to actually work with it. (omxplayer player supports these but you still need to hack it quite a bit, like the mplayer linux for the desktop, to be able to have it work with sagetv.) But, getting the UI to work, might just work as is with the latest code, since, jogl updates that I did, included the ARM binaries (I think).

Good luck with it.

If they bring Android to the PI3 then we can just use your Android client:
