SHS is correct. Even if you disable the DHCP on the tp-link and use it as an wireless access point you will lose the gigabit routing capablities of the tp-link.

The Westell is only 10/100 as well as any routing it would do. The network will only be as fast as it slowest component.

The Westell will have to be brigded, basically making it just a modem, and the tp-link will have to be setup as the router.

Your best bet is to call your ISP and request a modem only. Tell them you have your own router.
firenice that no you do not want to disable the DHCP on the TP-Link if want it as the main router
The things is turning the Westell in to a standard modem with all the other stuff disable and making the Westell the default gateway

SHS

He was asking if he could use just the wireless features of the tp-link router. This would be the way to do it. Otherwise if wants the tp-link to handle the DHCP he needs to bridge the Westell and let the tp-link handle it.

To simplify, could I put the Westell in bridge mode, and still use the TPLink as the wireless provider in my house? As I've discovered that my DSL ISP is not PPPoE but is routed IP, I need to know that if I turn the Westell to bridge, the TPLink can work both to be my primary router and also that it will be able to make the connection to the internet as needed. I think you guys provided instructions on this at one point previously but now you seem to be second-guessing it...

Yes. But If you bridge the Westell the tp-ink will have to be used as the router and will provide wireless. The directions for bridging the Westell include disabling the DHCP and the wireless on the Westell.

What model numbers are your Westell and tp link.

Bridging the Westell

pj

See the attachements in order 1 thru 5. This will bridge the Westell.
Keep in mind after the Westell is bridged the internet light on the Westell will be off. This is a result of the bridge mode. Also the Westell will not be accessable from the ip address any longer.

This is what needs to be checked on the tp-link.

If this fails to get an internet connection then you will have to do a reset on the westell.

SUCCESS!!

So last week when I threw the Westell into bridge mode and promptly lost my internet connection, there were a few things I'd missed:
1) Changing the Westell DHCP setting from "Private LAN" to "Off".
2) Having the cable from the Westell to the TPLink plugged into "E1/Uplink" (it was plugged into E4, as the setup instructions had told me that it didn't make any difference which port I used).
3) Rebooting the TPLink (duh!).

Did all that per firenice and SHS's recommendations in the three posts above this, and everything is working perfectly. Remote access to Sage webserver (and hence Phoenix app) and also to PlayOn is fully operational, as is my in-house LAN and wifi.

Thanks so much for your patience and attention, and all the advice. And I've learned a little, as well - now I know enough to be dangerous!!

One last question: the Westell device config address was previously 192.168.200.1. Now that it is bridged, that no longer works. If I ever wanted to unbridge it or do something else with it, how do I find the new IP address? Or do I need to see if there is a factory reset button or other trick to just do it without using a computer?

I believe the westell's web interface is locked to 192.168.1.1 when in bridged mode. If that is the same as your local subnet, it's going to prevent you from accessing it. (a computer asking for 192.168.1.1 of your router is going to get your router's 192.168.1.1 address). You need to have your local network on a different subnet (192.168.2.x, etc). Then, when asking your router for 192.168.1.1, it will know it's not in it's local network, and pass the request on to it's WAN port, which will then find the modem and connect you.

DOCSIS cable modems handle this better, as they use an uncommon local ip addresss (192.168.100.1) to prevent this conflict.
