Just to toss in my 2 cents on this issue, have you tried switching PCI slots? I know some PCI slots are allocated more bandwidth then others (there is a name for them, although it escapes me,) maybe that's the problem? Bus Mastering I believe is what it is called?

update: I changed the DIMM slot that one of my RAM sticks is in and the freezes have stopped.
I still have the 'memory countdown' in Norton physical RAM monitor, but it seems to be unrelated to the freezes. So, either it was bad RAM or a bad DIMM slot in my mobo. Sorry to cry wolf. The confusing part is that this mobo and all that RAM was fine for everything I threw at it until I put the 350 in there. It could render video for hours, play warcraft III for hours, etc etc with no problems. And the mobo is only 4 years old! |

I had no problems with my memory (that I knew of) until I started playing Dungeon Siege quite a while back... and then it let to the discovery that I had a bad stick of RAM.

RAM Usage Countdown
Although this thread was from a few months ago, I'm currently experiencing the same RAM eating problems that others have endured. I'm running 512mb of Kingston (2x256mb) and have dual PVR-250's. I'm not running Norton on this machine or any other kind of software other than Sage 2.0. This is strictly an HTPC.
My normal SageTV RAM usage is about 250mb, but after about 4 or 5 days I notice it spikes to well over 350mb. I've even seen it get as high as 430mb! And although I do not max out my RAM, the high usage is certainly alarming. When I notice the machine getting RAM hungry, I'll typically close out and restart Sage to free up the memory. Any thoughts on what this might be? Thanks! |

Same here, the longer Sage is open, the worse it runs (sluggish GUI, jumpy video playback).
I tried everything from nothing running except Sage to many different versions of GPU/Audio/Capture drivers. When I go to Task Manager I notice that the mem usage for SageTv.exe does slowly raise over time. |

I'm also a 350 owner using its TV-Out along with OSD and do get random lock ups during playback of any recordings whether its LiveTV or recorded shows. It happens once every other day. It never locks up with the menu screens alone, only with playback. Most of the time, it freezes the entire computer during agressive skipping forward of commercials. If I let it play without interruptions of any kind, its very stable, hardly ever locks up.
I really doubt it's a heat issue with the 350 nor its a norton issue, at least in my case. It never freezes with the SageTV menu screen, only during playback. So this means that it has something to do with some unstable codes that causes this, not heat. Plus I do have adequate cooling for the 350. As for norton, the lock ups ocurred even without norton installed, so it ruled out norton as the culprit. As for bad memory, my system doesn't have doesn't lock up with other applications. I really think its bad or unstable tuner drivers or unstable codes in sageTV that is causing this because with each new driver and SageTV update, it gets better and less lockups ocur. Has anyone really have success running SageTV with the 350 TV-out and OSD without stability issues? If yes, please post your hardware and software configurations and your insights. How about the Sage tech folks who run the 350 TV-out with OSD in their tests, is it stable? I would opted for S-video out from my video card, but I really like the video quality of the 350 and willing to put up with the lockups, as frustrating as it is especially when watching a LiveTV recording, because when it locks up, the recording is lost. One more thing about memory, my SageTV with 3 tuners uses 60M of physical memory and about 70M of virtual memory. I also have SageTV Service running and it uses about 60M/70M also. I haven't seen memory leakage as it is at a consistant 60M/70M. My pagefile is set at 2GB. Is the 60M/70M normal for you guys?

mayamaniac:
What decoders are you using. I used to get random lockups while fast forwarding with the sonic decoders.

However, once I removed my bad stick of RAM this problem stopped. (Or, it could have been that I had a bad RAM socket, too.) |

mayamanaic:
It sounds like decoder issues to me. I'm not familiar with the 350's config, but I've only run into a few instances where Sage locks during playback. I'm running dual 250's with Sonic decoders. I haven't heard great things about the stock Sage decoders, so I would recommend investing a few bucks in Sonic decoders. I'm still puzzled as to why Sage is drinking all of my memory over the course of a week. |
