Anyone here using managed switches can tell me what the benefit of paying extra for a managed switch? Is it worth the extra cost? Will it benefit SageTV any?

Thank for your inputs and feedbacks

Bill
Unless you have specific requirement like VLAN tagging an unmanaged switch will do. The Netgear GS116 is very good, not expensive, reliable and life warranty. I have one being in service since 6 years on 24/7, I have replaced the external power supply last year, but working perfectly otherwise.

I love my Netgear GS108T. Haven't used the feature yet but one of my reasons for getting it was for link aggregation. Now I find out that VMware doesn't support dynamic link aggregation.

Thank you for sharing,

I will look into Netgear switches and compare reviews before making a final decision on one to get.

I went ahead and ordered this TreadNET switch to give it a try.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I paid only 24 dollar, the seller just raised the price to 35 dollar so I guess I got lucky and ordered it before the price increase.

I will post back the result to see if that resolve my issue I am having with the lags in HD300 when the switches arrive.

That TrendNET switch was no go ...

When I received the order, the box look like it been opened in the past so I hooked it up and it made my network worse.

I think I got a returned switch so I send it back to Amazon. Now looking for a different brand switch.
